Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Solid Waste or Geo-Environmental Engineer in our geo-environmental engineering practice in Pensacola, Florida you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations on projects involving solid waste infrastructure design and construction; site characterization; leachate management systems; landfill gas collection and control; earth retaining structures; deep and soft/weak foundations; stormwater management systems; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; and analysis of stability and deformation, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing engineering calculations; 
  • Landfill design and permitting; 
  • Fieldwork such as soil, surface water, groundwater, and landfill gas sampling; 
  • Drilling and contractor oversight; 
  • Monitoring heavy civil construction; 
  • Stormwater impoundment evaluations; 
  • Developing construction drawings with CADD staff; and 
  • Writing and reviewing engineering reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals. 
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants. 
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50% 
  • Overnight travel: Up to 30% 

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (required) 
  • Advanced degree in civil, environmental or geotechnical engineering. (preferred) 
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred) 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required) 
  • Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, SLIDE, HELP, LandGEM, Slope/W, and PLAXIS. (preferred) 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required) 
  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
