Metric Engineering, Inc. is seeking candidates with approximately 6-12 years of professional experience for a full-time mid to senior level Environmental Scientist position based out of our South Florida (Fort Lauderdale and Miami) offices. The ideal candidate will possess extensive wetland, permitting, and habitat assessment experience in the South Florida region, strong regulatory agency relationships, and be able to operate independently as a design/permitting phase lead for Metric’s environmental department. Overall, the position entails providing statewide support across a wide variety of Metric projects involving wetlands, tree resources, mangroves, seagrasses, environmental permitting, contamination reviews, threatened/endangered species surveys, construction compliance monitoring, and NEPA documentation. Salary is commensurate with experience and translatable skills.

 

Day-to-Day:

•             Field surveys and site inspections

•             Wetland/OSW delineation and assessment

•             GIS analysis

•             Regulatory code interpretation/application

•             Environmental documentation and background research

•             Technical report writing/editing;

•             Data collection, processing, filing, and analysis; and

•             Coordination with regulatory agencies.

 

Required Qualifications:

•             Strong wetland and permitting skills

•             Education: B.S. or B.A. degree in natural or environmental sciences or planning (or similar field);

•             Excellent technical writing and communication skills

•             Florida driver’s license

•             Local to Broward, Dade, or Monroe County

 

Preferred Capabilities:

•             M.S. degree in relevant discipline

•             MS Office software proficiency

•             Ability to identify Florida’s native and exotic flora/fauna

•             Familiarity with ArcGIS.

 

Other Helpful Skills/Education:

•             SCUBA certification

•             Rescue/First Aid training

•             Florida Master Naturalist training

•             Wetland delineation training

•             Arborist certification or forestry/dendrology/botany background

•             Bilingual (English/Spanish)

•             Strong chemistry/geology/hydrology/sustainability background

•             Familiarity with South Florida geography/roadways

•             CADD or MicroStation familiarity
