Position Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for all facets of safety, including implementation, interpretation, and reporting of information for local/state/federal safety regulations and standards. Coordinates a variety of Safety Programs and provides professional-level support and assistance to such programs. Assist plant in achieving health, safety, and environmental-related goals.

Essential Functions

  • Perform safety audits and inspections to ensure site safety standards are met in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Review and implement standardized EHS policies and procedures, including but not limited to Job Safety Analysis, Risk Assessments, Incident/Accident Investigation, ergonomics, HAZCOM, Lockout/Tag Out, Hot Work, Confined Space, Cranes, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.
  • Conduct all safety-related training as necessary to comply with local/state/Federal requirements.
  • Maintain all safety training records.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and document monthly safety meetings.
  • Check and maintain all first aid inventory/supplies/PPE and request for re-supply if necessary.
  • Investigate near misses, accidents, incidents, injuries, and illnesses in the workplace and report to the Divisional EHS Manager.
  • Document all injuries/accidents and workplace illnesses, prepare reports for local/state/federal documentation logs (Cal OSHA, OSHA 300), and maintain confidentiality.
  • Assist with environmental data requirements for annual reporting.
  • Assist in collecting stormwater samples and getting samples to a lab for analysis.
  • Assist in providing weekly Safety Talk training for supervisors/managers.
  • Conduct fire and emergency evacuation drills as needed.
  • Lead in all aspects of Safety (coaching for Safety, behavior-based safety)
  • Must be able to wear PPE.
  • Completes training by supervisor.
  • Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • 2-3 years related work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental, or obtaining a degree in a related field.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED instructor certification
  • Any Professional Safety Certification (GSP, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.)
  • First Responder, EMT, or Paramedic license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, type, and communicate verbally fluently in English.
  • Reliable and dependable.
  • Have certification in CPR, First Aid/AED, and bloodborne pathogens or be able to obtain post-employment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/Cal OSHA and ISO standards and other environmental standards.
  • Be able to obtain ISO internal auditor certification post-employment.

Physical Requirements

  • Work in a manufacturing facility that exposes employees to loud noise, extreme temperature, and humidity, dust, environmental stressors, etc.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach, lean, and other requirements as needed to fulfill duties.
  • Able to interact effectively with other employees, management, customers, and visitors.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE as required by policy and procedures.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience 

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high-noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
