Environmental Products Origination Director

 

The Environmental Products Origination Director within the NRG Business team will identify and drive carbon offset and renewable natural gas transactions with NRG customers and suppliers.   This role will require a highly motivated and organized individual who will be proactive with time management, problem-solving, and judgment skills in a fast-paced environment and has established relationships with key stakeholders within the industry. One key element of the job will be developing unique product offerings to help reduce our customer's carbon footprint.    

 

Principal Activities

 

  • Enhance NRG's position as a comprehensive decarbonization platform by expanding renewable offerings, including products such as carbon offsets, RECs, and renewable natural gas.
  • Manage a team of professionals and set goals and objectives to enhance the company's financial position and establish NRG as a recognized leader in the industry's renewable and carbon-reducing/ offset space.
  • Work with NRG teams (i.e., gas, power, etc.) to evaluate, structure, and secure strategic transactions to accelerate NRG's renewable and carbon-reducing/ offset activities  
  • Originate and structure voluntary carbon projects in voluntary carbon offtake transactions, carbon-neutral commodity transactions, and other structured carbon-related transactions.
  • Take an active role in developing relationships across partners (developers, capital providers, off-takers, and other relevant external parties) and help build and shape NRG's voluntary carbon business strategy.
  • Develop focused regulatory oversight to monitor and identify opportunities in a rapidly evolving market
  • Develop renewable attribute management capabilities

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of natural gas marketing or natural gas trading experience is required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required
  • Relevant experience with the carbon market and demonstrable ability in the carbon offset structuring and sales space.
  • Sound understanding of renewable carbon offset project methodologies, registry requirements, international governance frameworks, and market developments, along with a track record of successfully delivering relevant projects.
  • An established network in the field of carbon offsets and renewable gas with potential partners, developers, off-takers, and capital providers.
  • Advanced knowledge of the natural gas industry, natural gas energy markets, and market fundamentals
  • A highly developed knowledge and appreciation of risks and risk management strategies applicable to voluntary carbon offset projects and the offset market.
  • Understanding of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and associated global standards and protocols such as GRI, SBTi's, Net Zero, and others.
  • Proven ability to source and develop solid and strategic ecosystem relationships that drive business.
  • A collaborative self-starter with a proven track record of sales success with channel partners and/or 3rd party sales networks is preferred
  • Critical thinker with good judgment skills who doesn't simply accept a "business as usual" approach
  • Outstanding problem-solving, strategic-thinking, presentation, verbal and writing skills
  • Strong commercial skills and proven "hunter" that identifies and closes large natural gas/renewable transactions
  • Strong understanding of RECS and/or Carbon Offsets, Virtual Power Purchase Agreements ("VPPAs"), and consulting services related to climate mitigation.

 

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid position (combination of in-office and remote work) to be based in Houston, TX.
  • Up to 25% travel requirement to establish and maintain customer business
