SUMMARY

Performs various duties associated with implementing and coordinating a variety of outdoor recreation programs, activities, and events such as kayaking, canoeing, fishing, camping, cycling, and archery. Assists with the community and tourism-based special events.

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts the following duties, where a momentary lapse of attention can have a disastrous consequence to the employee or the public:

  • Responsible to supervise children in various day and summer camps.
  • Responsible for making split-second decisions to implement the emergency action plan, as it relates to emergencies at park and recreation facilities and parks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, maintain, and implement environmental and outdoor programs, classes, and activities for the Angleton Recreation Center and Angleton parks.
  • Responsible for assisting with the nature education field trips, camps, Home School, scout program, having booths at events, planting and maintaining gardens, and additional Keep Angleton Beautiful programs and events.
  • Assists with Keep Angleton Beautiful strategic initiatives
  • Enforces rules and safety standards; monitors program activities and assists participants in recreation activities
  • Maintains records and prepares reports and budgets as needed for the successful operation of recreation programs
  • Develops community partner relationships and coordinates with community partners to produce a beneficial and financially stable outcome of programming for the community 
  • Coordinates and maintains related program records and statistics
  • Directly supervisor volunteer staff associated with environmental and outdoor programs
  • Train, oversee, discipline, schedule, and conduct the duties of seasonal youth camp and interns associated with environmental and outdoor programs
  • Provides input and ideas for the promotion and marketing of programs, and provides information to be used for marketing materials
  • Receives and responds appropriately to citizen inquiries and concerns, routes calls to appropriate City personnel 
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous office duties such as answering phones, typing, filing, and other duties as assigned 
  • Expected to maintain regular required attendance
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure)

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Recreation/Park Management or closely related field. 
  • Applicants with significant relevant experience and training may be considered.

Special Licenses, Certifications, and Designations

  • Applicant must have a valid Texas Drivers’ License in good standing.
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR with AED are required.
  •  

Preferred Certifications and Affiliations

  • TPWD Angler certification
  • TPWD Archery certification
  • ACA Canoeing and Paddle Boarding certification
  • TPWD Boater certification
  • TPWD Project WILD certification
  • Texas Recreation & Parks Society member

The person in this position is required to Frequently walking, stand, sit, bend, and stoop; use their hands and digits to manipulate objects and operate a personal computer; talk on a phone and radio; listen and hear on a phone and radio; must be able to perform duties in all weather conditions on rough terrain and Occasionally be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
