Senior Enviromental Air Engineer

 Job Description:

Summary

The Senior Air Environmental Engineer is responsible for supporting the refinery's environmental compliance with corporate policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The primary focus of this position is to support the local Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), California Air Resources Board, and Federal EPA Air compliance and rule advocacy efforts.

The Senior Air Environmental Engineer reports to the Refinery Environmental Affairs Manager and will be part of a team covering all aspects of refinery environmental matters. The Senior Air Environmental Engineer works closely with operations, maintenance, inspection, other engineering disciplines, and contractors to ensure that environmental requirements are clearly understood and conveyed throughout the organization.

The Senior Air Environmental Engineer also works to continuously improve MRC's environmental management systems and environmental performance.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead and organize negotiations and discussions with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., governmental agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, competitors, refinery staff, contract partners, and internal resources).
  • Evaluate proposed changes, both from internal (e.g., projects and facility changes) or external sources, to determine regulatory requirements and ensure environmental compliance under those changes, which may require the implementation of new internal management systems.
  • Lead and participate in agency inspections, compliance/enforcement action, and internal audits.
  • Develop and deliver verbal and written communications to ensure complex issues are understood by individuals and groups at many levels inside and outside of the organization.
  • Develop and deliver training to MRC personnel and contractors on permit, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports to local, state, and federal agencies which include technical components and written communication.
  • Evaluate the priority and urgency of tasks/projects related to environmental compliance to manage your own workload and give guidance to internal personnel on when deliverables are needed.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and support to other environmental staff.
  • Support/backfill other environmental media functions in air, water, and waste.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in engineering, environmental, physical sciences, or other closely related technical field.
  • 4+ Years of experience with compliance (e.g., environmental, safety) in a regulated industrial setting.
  • Experience interacting directly with regulators.
  • Participate in the refinery on-call environmental duty rotation and respond to the refinery during environmental incidents.
  • Candidate must have an active TWIC card or be able to obtain a TWIC card. 

 Salary Package:

85,000.00 - 145,000.00 ()
