The director of sustainable construction is a leader in the construction and real estate industry, supporting PCL’s sustainability roadmap, relationship and sustainability strategies. The successful candidate possesses construction or real estate development related sustainability expertise and has demonstrated leadership in guiding organizational sustainable change within an organization.  The primary purpose of this role is to provide company-wide leadership to support PCL’s sustainability strategic plan, including cost-benefit analysis, sustainability goal tracking, value added knowledge and service to PCL’s clients and project teams pertaining to sustainable design and construction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute PCL’s sustainability company strategy and roadmap.
  • Track initiatives and provide recommendations and cost-benefit analysis to sustainability initiatives. 
  • Provide our internal and external clients with expertise/knowledge to assist them to profitability develop, design, construct, and operate projects to achieve the highest level of sustainability, focused on reduced energy consumption, and low carbon/net carbon neutral targets.
  • Ensure internal development of sustainability knowledge and alignment of sustainable construction services in all districts across North America. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to project teams in accordance with PCL’s sustainability strategy and in alignment with the corporate strategic plan.
  • Develop partnerships and networks that can be used to enhance PCL’s portfolio of sustainability service offerings to our clients.
  • Develop and implement a strategy around sustainable practices for PCL as a corporate entity. Specifically measuring, reporting, and reducing construction waste, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Enhance PCL’s brand through development and implementation of an internal and external sustainability communications and marketing plan for the company that includes public speaking engagements, internal and external publications, web content, social media.
  • Lead PCL’s Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) development and reporting. 

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate holds a diploma or degree in engineering, architecture or business coupled with expertise and experience in the construction industry.
  • Minimum of 15 years of construction, real estate development or manufacturing experience, with 10 years of experience in sustainable construction.
  • Hold industry sustainable credentials such as GBC LEED, WELL, Envision, etc. 
  • Able to envision and communicate creative, cost-effective, solutions to meet business needs to executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and proactively address challenges or gaps in the sustainable construction
  • Exceptional networking and relationship development skills with internal and external clients
  • Strong customer service and solution provider abilities
  • Analytical thinker with ability to provide data-driven recommendations and solutions.
  • Strategic and creative thinker.
  • Excellent and persuasive communicator.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence effectively and implement organizational change.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Canada and the United States.
