We have an opportunity for an EHS Specialist to join our team in Dungarvan

The purpose of this role to improve and maintain an effective and safe working environment.  The EHS Specialist performs functions related to environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.  The successful candidate will work with all levels in the organisation to strengthen the EHS culture. The role will coordinate the Risk assessment processes and the site EHS sustainability team.

The EHS Specialist will have excellent influencing skills in order to promote an EHS culture and awareness within the organisation through participation and clear visibility and alignment on assigned project goals, targets and achievements.

Job Description

  • Coordination and completion of assigned EHS improvement projects, supporting the development of sustainable, robust and compliant EHS strategies and systems with associated policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver key EHS KPI’ s for the Dungarvan and PSS sites on a monthly basis
  • Ensure that monthly safety audits of the site are performed.
  • Perform risk assessments and audits across the site on a regular basis ensuring that all site activities are being managed in line with legal and corporate requirements
  • Complete investigations of EHS incidents and corrective actions in a timely manner Report to third parties as required.
  • Create, update and maintain all internal safety related quality documentation working procedures and standard documents
  • Highlight training requirements and improve the safety culture through training and awareness
  • Monitor adherence to company policies and check effectiveness of current policies that are in place,
  • Ensure site is fully prepared for fire and emergency evacuations
  • Carry out site wide EHS induction, manual handling and ergonomic training as required.
  • Advise and guide management and employees on Environmental health and safety laws, regulations and directives which affect the company and its employees.
  • As site Biological Safety Officer (BSO) perform all duties within this responsibility including:

• to ensure that all GMM/GMO users operating within a facility are informed of the legislative requirement to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to avoid adverse effects on human health and the environment.

• to ensure through periodic inspection of the GMM/GMO facility that the requirements of the GMO (Contained Use) Regulations and the consent conditions/letter of agreement issued in respect of the GMM/GMO activity respectively, are adhered to and fulfilled.

• to liaise with the EPA particularly during the course of enforcement site inspections carried out by the EPA.

Qualifications

Suitable candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science related discipline
  • level 6 diploma in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety
  • At least 3 years’ technical experience in EHS and a proven track record of developing EHS compliance programs, with exposure to chemical and/or biological agents in the Pharmaceutical industry or related industry.
  • Technical knowledge of OEL’s and product containment
  • Clear understanding of the needs of cGMP
  • Ability to work in a multidiscipline team but also possesses self-motivation and drive.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and regulations.
  • Experience of chemical/biological agents risk assessment and occupational monitoring is essential. Experience as Biological Safety officer desirable
  • Experience in conducting EHS audits.
  • Excellent organisational skills and good commercial acumen.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to drive improvements.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships.

Demonstrate effective communication skills and a proactive attitude to solving any lab issues by liaising with management
