We are currently seeking an Environmental Project Scientist who will support projects related to our work with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Contamination, Assessment, and Remediation (CAR) Team. Position is hybrid and located in Fort Lauderdale, FL.


What will be my responsibilities and objectives:


· Conduct project reviews throughout the southeast counties including historical investigations of wetlands, land use and endangered species in accordance with NEPA regulations.

· Conduct/provide oversight of onsite contamination/environmental site assessments or remedial activities as necessary. Sampling can include the following: groundwater sampling, soil sampling, vapor intrusion air sampling, well installation, soil borings, potable well surveys, aquifer testing, and pilot testing.

· Prepare Contamination Assessment Plans, Site Assessment Reports and Contamination Assessment Summary Memo’s.

· Perform reviews, investigations, report preparation and other documentation in accordance with the applicable FDOT Department’s Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Manual.

· Aid in creating cost proposals, schedule, and coordination of work activities. To be completed.

· Ensure and maintain an open line of communication with clients and internal staff.

· Work on other projects as needed.

Requirements

Requirements and skills needed for success:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or Geology.
  • 3+ years of environmental experience plus working under a CAR Contact with the Department of Transportation improvement projects and roadway projects.
  • Additional experience with contaminated and/or hazardous materials avoidance, management and construction as related to Department of Transportation improvement CAR projects, or similar roadway project experience is required.
  • Additional experience surveying for environmental features such as wetlands, listed flora and fauna, historical structures, socio-cultural and contamination related issues.
  • Must have a basic understanding of construction plans, Geographic Information System (GIS) & Global Positioning System (GPS) interfaces and mapping.
  • OSHA 40 a plus.
  • Proficient technical skills with a variety of software tools including Microsoft Office and Excel. AutoCad knowledge a plus.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and a team player who is collaborative and cooperative with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both with HCR employees as well as customers and regulators.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites in the District 4/Florida locations.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Ability to pass background checks (physical/criminal/drug/alcohol).
