Overview
GLOVIS America is seeking an Assistant Manager – Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to lead and coordinate workplace safety programs and compliance initiatives at its Port Hueneme facility. This role is responsible for promoting a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment through the development, implementation, and oversight of safety programs, employee training, regulatory compliance, and incident prevention efforts.
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, hazard identification, employee training, and workers’ compensation management. This position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety while supporting operational excellence across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Management
Manage and oversee facility-wide safety programs and initiatives
Encourage employees and supervisors to report workplace injuries and incidents immediately
Promote reporting of unsafe conditions and coordinate corrective actions and repairs
Identify potential safety hazards and provide recommendations to reduce or eliminate risks
Coordinate with department leaders on equipment, facility, and process design to ensure compliance with safety regulations
Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and California OSHA regulations and requirements
Distribute and communicate updates to safety standards, policies, and regulatory changes
Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and incidents and recommend corrective actions
Monitor and support fire prevention and emergency response activities
Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations
Support initiatives aimed at reducing workplace injuries and workers’ compensation costs
Training, Compliance & Auditing
Develop and update safety training programs for employees and supervisors
Provide new hire safety orientation and ongoing safety education
Deliver training related to workplace hazards, emergency response, and safe work practices
Conduct compliance audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement
Follow up on corrective actions to ensure effectiveness and compliance
Maintain training records, safety documentation, and compliance reports
Participate in company meetings and safety committees as required
Assist with regulatory inspections and compliance-related activities
Incident Prevention & Risk Management
Analyze workplace incidents and safety trends to identify improvement opportunities
Recommend proactive measures to prevent accidents and injuries
Support emergency preparedness and response planning
Assist in the management of workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organization
Cross-Functional Support
Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, and Management teams on safety initiatives
Support facility-wide compliance programs and continuous improvement efforts
Assist with special projects and safety-related assignments as needed
Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong knowledge of workplace safety programs, policies, and compliance requirements
Ability to effectively present information and conduct employee training
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct safety risks and compliance issues
Ability to respond effectively during emergency situations
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
Education & Experience
Associate degree required
Bachelor’s degree preferred
6–9 years of experience in Safety, Workers’ Compensation, Training, or related fields required
7–11 years of related experience preferred
Hazmat Training required
Valid state-issued driver’s license required
4–7 years of supervisory experience preferred
Hazmat, IIPP, and OSHA certifications preferred
