Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As a Generation Technician you'll conduct and manage maintenance throughout our geothermal Wairakei plant. Your main focus will be to support the reliable, safe and flexible operation of Contact’s essential assets.  Safety is paramount and you'll need to ensure we operate to the highest of standards.

This is a broad role but some of the key tasks you'll be responsible for are;

  • Perform maintenance work and complex tasks such as time-based overhauls, replacements, technical repairs, calibrations, and inspections 
  • Implement RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) activities to improve Predictive and Preventive Maintenance practices 
  • Monitor plant condition, identify and report on defective plant and equipment, undertake preventive measures, and rectify problems where required 
  • Ensure that all activities and tasks are conducted in compliance with environmental consents, and within station and company environmental guidelines and procedures 
  • Ensure that safe working and occupational health principles and practices are known and observed, and that all safety rules and procedures are complied with by Contact and other personnel working on site 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and skills of Quality Management System requirements, all relevant Health and Safety practices and procedures, and relevant legislative requirements.

Note that you will need to be open to on call work - a component of this role requires you to participate in a call-out roster to provide 24 hour coverage for operational and maintenance requirements.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you 

Ideally, you'll have experience in maintenance of power generation and/or heavy rotating mechanical plant and auxiliary equipment. In particular, knowledge of mechanical plant, heavy rotating equipment, electrical plant, control and protection systems, boilers, gas turbine technology would be great to see.  Exposure to systematic maintenance strategies and experience in condition monitoring would be a plus, and any machining capability including lathe and milling experience would be ideal too but it's not a must have.

Qualifications wise you'll hold a Relevant National Diploma/NZCE, Trade Certificate, or equivalent qualification in a specialist mechanical maintenance discipline.

This role would suit an enthusiastic and self-motivated person. You're able to build and maintain relationships with ease. A natural influencer, famous for your communication style and ability to take people on a journey.

You're an agent for change; making sure we are always improving our ways of working. Your inquisitive mind means you're skilled at identifying issues and, you're quick to suggest cost effective solutions. 

Overall, you enjoy working on the tools and are passionate about the ongoing care and up keep of generation plants, ensuring they have optimal performance and are operating safely.
