Technical Services Manager
Perth Based | Monday – Friday | Site Travel as Required
We’re currently looking for a Technical Service Manager to work for Yilgarn Iron.
Following the successful restart of operations, the business is now entering the next phase of optimisation and growth, with a strong focus on improving coordination across technical planning, production execution, blending strategy and mine development activities.
This is a newly created role designed to bring greater alignment across the technical services function and introduce a clear point of accountability for mining-related technical activities across the operation.
Reporting to the COO and working closely with senior leadership and site operations teams, the role will act as the link between Perth and site — ensuring business strategy, mine planning, production execution and operational realities remain aligned.
The role carries responsibility across the broader technical mining pathway, ensuring operational plans are practical, executable, commercially sound and aligned to production and shipping requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Lead and coordinate technical services activities across geology, mine engineering, planning and production-related functions
-
Translate higher-level business objectives into practical operational plans and executable mining strategies
-
Oversee mine planning, sequencing, pit optimisation, mine design, grade control and blending activities
-
Ensure operational execution aligns with production schedules, ship build requirements and customer specifications
-
Review and analyse planned versus actual mining outcomes, identifying improvement opportunities across production, sequencing and cost performance
-
Provide technical leadership across multiple mining areas, ore sources and stockpile strategies
-
Work closely with operational leadership teams to ensure plans are practical and aligned with site realities
-
Support optimisation of mining, blending and scheduling activities across multiple pits and ore types
-
Contribute to medium and long-term growth planning, including pit expansions and future development opportunities
This role requires someone who understands the full operational mining chain — from resource and block models through to production execution and final shipped product quality.
To be successful, you will have:
-
Strong open pit iron ore experience, ideally within BIF deposits
-
Strong commercial, operational and analytical capability
-
Demonstrated ability to align mine planning, blending and production activities with operational and commercial outcomes
-
Experience leading or coordinating technical services functions across mining operations
-
Ability to identify operational issues, understand root causes and implement practical improvements
-
Strong communication skills and a practical, hands-on leadership style
-
Advanced Micromine capability, with exposure to Micromine Alastri or similar mine planning and scheduling software
-
Mining Engineering background preferred, though strong geology backgrounds with relevant operational exposure will also be considered
This role suits someone who is comfortable operating between corporate leadership and site operations, can see the bigger operational picture, and understands how technical decisions ultimately impact production performance, product quality and commercial outcomes.
