The Environmental Scientist/Engineer will provide technical support within a multi-disciplined team of scientific and environmental professionals.Contribute to scientific and environmental projects. This position will work in both office and field locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
§Provide leadership of health and safety as a priority;
§Lead projects and participate as a team member in other projects as assigned
§Provide support for various scientific and environmental investigations;
§Record field observations in a concise, accurate, and legible manner;
§Deliver scientific data from a wide variety of media that is complete and meets quality objectives;
§Supervise subcontractors, including drillers, utility locators, surveyors, waste management technicians, etc;
§Understanding of data management and analysis techniques and software, including GIS software or similar tools.
§Develop work plans and perform field work according to the work plans; draft environmental and scientific reports based on the field work;
§Share lessons learned and strive for continual program and personal improvement;
§Provide team communication.
§This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
§Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success may also be assigned.
§BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Geological Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or similarly related field.
§Minimum one (1) year directly related experience.
§Solid technical writing experience.
§Practical experience with state and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA).
§Experience with contracts, soliciting quotes and bids and project management as well as contractor oversight and standard purchasing procedures.
§Must be willing and able to adhere to health, safety, and quality assurance protocols
§Ability to travel and support summer field activities.
§Ability and willingness to travel in light aircraft to remote locations.
§Must be competent with various software programs (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
§Must have good problem resolution abilities.
§Ability to work out in the field and in an office.
§Ability to work out in the field and in an office. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather\: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level\: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment\: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements\:Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel\: Employee may travel up to 25% of the time to various locations within Alaska and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, helicopters, and ATVs.
Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified.
