About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled technician to join our team in the evaluation, testing, sorting, and repair of used solar panels. As a solar panel Test and Metrology Technician, you will play a crucial role in determining the fate of used panels by assessing their viability for recycling, resale, or re-use within our advanced recycling facility in Odessa, TX. Your expertise in solar panel technology and your attention to detail will contribute to our sustainable energy efforts and help shape the future of renewable energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Panel Testing: Conduct comprehensive testing of used solar panels to assess their functionality, efficiency, and overall condition using a variety of technologically advanced tools.
  • Sorting: Carefully inspect and categorize panels based on their performance metrics, physical condition, and potential for repair.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Identify and execute necessary repairs, such as soldering connections, replacing damaged components, and fixing minor defects, to restore panels to working condition whenever feasible.
  • Data Collection: Record detailed testing results, repair actions taken, and quality assessments for each panel, maintaining accurate and organized records.
  • Decision-Making: Utilize standard operating procedures, testing data, and repair outcomes to make informed decisions on whether panels should be recycled or prepared for re-use/resale.
  • Documentation: Prepare clear and comprehensive documentation for panels recommended for resale, detailing their specifications, testing results, and repairs performed.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of testing and repair equipment to ensure accurate results and safe operation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, recycling production operations, logistics, and sales, to communicate findings and contribute to efficient operations.
  • Process Improvement: Actively participate in the development and enhancement of testing, sorting, and repair procedures to increase efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines when handling panels and equipment to create a safe working environment.

Education, Training and Professional Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in electronics, renewable energy, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in testing, repairing, and maintaining solar panels or electronic components.
  • Familiarity with solar panel technology, electrical systems, and related tools and equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to accurately record data and maintain organized documentation.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and convey technical information.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving processes, requirements, and testing procedures
  • Meticulous ability to follow standard operating procedures and recommend improvements to procedures to boost testing efficiency
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a multi-technician testing team
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems or databases is a plus
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy equipment and panels.
    • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Flexibility to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods during testing and repair activities.
