Safety and Security Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

As part of the OdySea Aquarium team, the safety and security specialist must lead by example, commit to a strong work ethic, being patient, kind, respectful, forgiving, and honest. Positive communication is expected at all times, maintaining excellent guest service focus at all times. Working cooperatively with all other departments, and team members. Providing a service to the team members and our guests. Emulate the mission and vision of the organization. Emphasizing education and conservation while delivering excellence in the guest experience. This position is responsible for the safety, security, shipping and receiving of OdySea Aquarium team members and our guests.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Restock first aid kits.
  • Shipping and Receiving.
  • Ability to read a bill of lading.
  • Understand UPS FedEx USPS and trucking procedures.
  • Ability to assemble warehouse shelving/equipment.
  • Screening/checking all team members at the team member entrance.
  • Maintain visitor logs and screen solicitors should they try to enter the building through the team member entrance.
  • Loss prevention experience preferred.
  • Ability to write notes neatly when investigation situations.
  • Comfortable with bag check procedures.
  • Ability to accurately and swiftly ascertain a situation before it escalates into something more serious.
  • Proficient in keeping critical and personal information confidential.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and the importance of staying current with the safety program.
  • Ability to make quick accurate observations.
  • Open and close the facility.
  • Assist EMS and police when on site.
  • Proficient in monitoring cameras, fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Preform safety checks on employees and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Proficient operation of scissor lifts, pallet jacks, ladders, and fork lifts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft systems, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Be able to drive a 24’ box truck.
  • Identify and report when supply products are low.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • All other duties assigned.
  • Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.
Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2-year experience in security.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA regulations.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Clean driving record.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High noise levels in work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds particularly regarding storage and paper boxes, and transfer of clothing.
  • Must be able to take directional cues directly or indirectly.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or crawl.
  • Required to frequently talk and hear.
  • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work.
  • Specific vision requirement for this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Must be able to take directional cues directly or indirectly.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may be loud at times.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including occasional extreme hot or cold, and wet and/or humid conditions.
