Senior Battery Modeling Scientist
Position Scope
SES has an opening for a Senior Battery Modeling Scientist to develop physics-based model for LMBs, design experiment for model parameterization and validation, and develop algorithms for BMS. Attending to these responsibilities will require working closely with electrolyte, anode, cathode, and cell scientists and engineers. The successful candidate is committed and dedicated, responsible, focused, detail-oriented, able to adjust in a fast-paced working environment, collaborate well with other staff members with a shared vision, and demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills. This position will be based in our Woburn, MA location.
Responsibilities
- Develop multiphysics-based model to simulate the behaviors of the lithium metal batteries under various usage conditions
- Design experiment to obtain parameters required to fit and validate the physics-based models
- Use the developed battery model to provide insights about degradation and failure mechanisms, as well as performance limiting factors
- Develop physics-based models and machine learning algorithms for battery performance diagnostics (SOC, SOH) and prognostics (RUL)
- Work with the battery management system team to implement the developed models/algorithms
Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree in EE, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering
- Fundamental knowledge of electrochemistry, mechanics, and heat transfer. Experience in lithium metal batteries highly preferred
- 2+ years’ experience of creating Multiphysics-based model using commercial software (COMSOL, etc.), open-source code, or self-developed code (python preferred)
- Experienced in design of experiment for the parameterization of physics-based battery model
- Experienced in physics-based model and machine learning algorithm development applied in battery management system (i.e., SOC, SOH, RUL estimation)
- Strong communication skills and a good team player.
