Job Summary:
The Landscaper, under regular supervision, executes small-scale landscaping operations and maintains the grounds of assigned areas. Coordinates with gardeners, growers, and other technicians in preparing sites for grading planting soils, planting various floras, applying fertilizers, seeding and sodding, and transplanting shrubs and plants.

Description:
  • Hauls plant materials to and from work sites and assists with unloading trucks and delivering materials.
  • Performs numerous essential functions, such as pulling weeds, picking up trash and plant debris, and raking pine straw. 
  • Pick up trash, and remove limbs, Spanish moss, and debris following storms or other wind events.
  • Operates mowing equipment, including weed-eaters, backpack blowers, and stick edgers, to maintain turfgrass, plant beds, and hardscapes.
  • Place straw and mulch around the base of specified trees, plants, and shrubs to prevent the evaporation of water from the soil and the freezing of roots.
  • Prunes trees, shrubs, and ornamentals using hand and power tools, including hand-held shears, pruning shears, loppers, power pole saws, and gas head shears.
  • Sprays around trees, plants, and shrubs with herbicides as directed; applies supplemental liquids and dry nutrients to lawn and trees.
  • Fills in for the Crew Leader in their absence
  • This position is a red card employee position. In a significant storm event or mandatory evacuation, the employee must report back within 24 hours of being notified to return to work to assist the Island with storm cleanup and getting the Island ready for daily operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Landscaper II Qualifications:  
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, CDL a plus.
  • One to two years of relevant experience in golf course maintenance, landscape, etc.
  • May consider any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. 
  • Must be self-motivated and reliable 
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar but essential job functions
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are required.  
 
Landscaper I Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • One-year relevant experience in golf course maintenance, landscape, etc., preferred
  • May consider any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. 
  • Must be self-motivated and reliable 
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar but essential job functions
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are required.  
 
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 
  • Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • More than 50% of the typical workday will be spent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching; you must be able to lift hands and arms above your head.
  • Between 25 and 50% of the day is spent climbing, pushing, and pulling. 
  • Less than 25% of the day is spent crawling.
  • Sensory abilities require vision, hearing, and touching, with more than 50% of the day spent communicating, talking, and hearing. 
  • Must have visual clarity to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned and operate the motor to make general observations of facilities and structures. 
  • Required to perform work both inside and outside. Exposure to extreme heat, high humidity, occasionally adverse weather conditions, and occasional extreme cold.
  • Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to chemicals, and subject to vibration.
  • It may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, or poor ventilation.
  • Noise levels are considered normal to loud.
