This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience within the pay band of $80,000 - $120,000 annually plus the benefits listed below.

The Opportunity…
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to optimize system designs and project execution for the electrical (AC/DC) side of solar electric (commercial and residential) and other energy projects (including energy storage, EV chargers, and main service panel upgrades).
  • Lead and work alongside crews to install the electrical (AC/DC) portion of solar electric and energy projects. Be responsible for all technical and safety aspects of electrical (AC/DC) side of these solar electric and energy projects
  • Assist with design of residential and commercial ground mount and rooftop solar arrays electrical or AC part of the design via consultation
  • Support development of bid proposals and project implementation
  • Train and mentor GRID staff members on the electrical (AC/DC) portion of solar electric and other energy projects, including those pursuing electrician certifications. Support apprentices and provide guidance to obtain Residential Wireman and Journeyman certifications.
  • As part of GRID's workforce development program, train and mentor trainees and volunteers on the electrical (AC/DC) portion of solar electric and other energy projects to prepare them for employment. Support GRID workforce staff to deliver high-quality training programs.
  • Assist with the project permitting process when needed.
  • Assist in the procurement process of all electrical equipment
  • Lead installation of AC SCOPE on commercial projects, assists RW’S AND NABCEPS on residential projects, inspections, tie-ins, shutdown/reconnects.
  • Maintain California Responsible Master electrical license.
  • Work collaboratively with all other GRID California and HQ departments; Attend  team meetings; represent the organization in a positive manner to utility partners, potential donors, funders, sponsors, and the general community.
  • Advance the organization's equity, inclusion, and diversity work and understand that this can only be achieved within a framework of social, economic, and environmental justice.
  • O&M, service calls, troubleshooting when required
  • Work from the office alongside other personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned
What you need to bring to this role…
  • Active Master Electrician license in State of California, willing to allow GRID Alternatives to use electrical license for business permit and/or licensing purposes.
  • Experience with both residential and/or commercial scale AC/DC PV systems installation, design, and troubleshooting solar experience required especially with commercial PV  projects including car chargers and battery backup capabilities
  • Experience with leading crews with both residential and/or commercial scale PV systems installation
  • Excellent communication skills (ability to work with staff, trainees, volunteers and clients from diverse backgrounds, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively to diverse populations)
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and work effectively and respectfully within diverse teams
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, team-building and collaboration skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
  • Able to travel throughout California. GRID Alternatives provides travel reimbursement and applicant must hold a valid driver’s license and possess a reliable vehicle. Occasional travel to other GRID offices may be required
  • Leadership qualities such as creativity, capacity to motivate others, understanding teams and their needs, eagerness to accept responsibility, and intelligent and action oriented judgment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb up and down ladders regularly.

*Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

 
Where you will sit & the places you may go…
This position is located in Sacramento, CA, ideally the candidate would be based close to Sacramento to help with operations. Travel commitment is at least 25%, this will vary depending on project type and location. Availability to occasionally work nights and weekends may be required.
