JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, in the Integrated Resource Division. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 09/28/2023 whichever comes first. MAJOR DUTIES: This position provides overall professional and technical direction for the museum collection program for Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, Congaree National Park, Moores Creek National Battlefield, as well as other parks in the Southeast Region. This position plans for and develops recommendations for programming priorities of all museum management functions and ensures that NPS and professionally recognized procedures are applied in all operations. The collections cover any one or a combination of disciplines, including archeology, ethnology, history, archives, biology, geology, and paleontology. This position consults with all divisions to assure the park's compliance with legislative requirements and NPS policy dealing with preservation of museum objects and as required, with other cultural and natural resource management concerns. As appropriate and in compliance with law and policy, consults with cultural groups (e.g., tribes) on the management of collections in which they have an interest. This position ensures development and implementation of all required museum collection programs and plans in compliance with the NPS museum property accountability rules and procedures as described in NPS-28 Cultural Resources Management Guideline, NPS-77 Natural Resources Management Guideline, NPS Museum Handbook, and other publications as applicable. As a Museum Curator, you will perform the following duties: Providing professional and technical direction for the museum collection programs for Charles Pinckney National Historic Site, Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, and Congaree National Park. Planning and developing recommendations for programming priorities of museum management functions. Maintaining records and documentation for museum collections. Planning and implementing curatorial procedures for on-site and outside exhibits. Conducting research to identify and/or authenticate museum objects. Maintaining proper preservation, security and fire protection, and collection storage conditions. Managing an integrated pest management program. Conducting presentations in parks, public gatherings, and professional meetings. Consulting with the resources division and support office cultural and natural resources personnel to ensure that compliance and long-term preservation concerns related to the historic structures, archeological sites, and natural components within the unit are properly considered as they relate to museum management.
