ACTIA will not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on any of these characteristics.   Description The Battery Systems Engineer will be a seasoned engineer who takes leadership to modify or design battery packs for customers' hybrid and electric vehicle applications in a disciplined engineering environment. This role also provides diagnostic support for service and varied production support. Responsibilities & Activities Battery Systems: Responsible for performing battery pack design; emphasis on architectural and electrical aspects Develops test procedures and cell cycling equipment for performing electrical product and component evaluations (both internally and in labs) Perform technical risk and performance analysis and simulation Maintain time records and project reports as required Participate in process improvement Collaboration: Collaborates with customer and development team to analyze and document requirements Collaborate with other engineers on the global team as needed or required Support: Provide technical guidance to all engineering disciplines through all phases of the APQP development process Support customer integration and validation of battery pack, onsite when required Support program management in post-sourcing reviews of hardware, software and systems Legal Compliance: Ensure legal compliance with state, federal and OSHA requirements Ensure ISO procedures are followed Maintain compliance with all company policies, work instructions and procedures Integrated Management System (IMS) For everyone out of MACO, Region Leadership Teams and Plant Managers: Within his/her scope of responsibility, he/she respects the standards and rules in terms of Quality, Safety and Environment contributing to the IMS process management and improvement ORGANIZATION POSITION KEY INTERFACES (internal and/or external) Internal PO employees at Elkhart site and other PO sites External Customers Vendors POSITION BACK UP N/A KEY MEASURES & FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY Attention to detail Ability to take ownership of tasks and products Alertness and creativity to use available resources and designs Intuition for disciplined quality process in meeting product requirements   Position Requirements PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Personal Background Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science or related engineering field Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the automotive industry with hybrid and/or electric vehicles 4 years’ experience in battery pack development, preferred Job Technical Skills Knowledge of quality, safety and manufacturability of battery packs Experience with high voltage and high capacity lithium ion battery systems: LTO and NMC preferred Experience specifying and setting up tests with cyclers and other diagnostic equipment Experience with BMS software control algorithms and hardware design preferred Experience with power electronics preferred Demonstrable experience with tools and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, meters, diagnostics/analysis software) to perform standardized certification testing Job Soft Skills Stay focused on the quality of each and every deliverable by ensuring consistency and adherence to high standards, as well as paying close attention to even the minutest details involved Ability to possess higher-order thinking skills that enable one to see both sides of the coin.
