FLSA Status: Full Time; Regular, Non-Exempt

Starting Pay: $21.88/hour

General Statement:                

The Irrigation Technician works with the Senior Irrigation Technician in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, functioning as backup coverage during the absence of the Senior Irrigation Technician.

 

Essential Duties:                    

  1. Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
  2. Troubleshoot and maintain sprinklers, valves, backflow preventers and piping.
  3. Perform routine preventive maintenance and operation of irrigation systems, including filter injectors and smart controllers.
  4. Assist with maintaining accurate records of monthly meter readings, irrigation maps and irrigation controller scheduling.
  5. Perform minor troubleshooting and repair on electrical components such as pumps and sprinklers control units up to 115v.
  6. Operate backhoe, trencher or heavy equipment.
  7. Operate programs and maintain computerized irrigation systems.
  8. Work with copper, plastic or galvanized pipe.
  9. Work collaboratively with internal and external guests to meet the Zoo’s overall revenue goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 1 year experience in landscape irrigation maintenance. Technical training in landscape irrigation preferred.
  2. Knowledge of landscape and irrigation equipment (i.e., PVC, valves and drip irrigation)
  3. Ability to safely operate and maintain hand and power equipment.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  6. Ability to operate heavy equipment and obtain certification.
  7. Ability to perform heavy physical labor such as lifting up to 50lbs., use of picks, breaker bars, stake drivers, ladders and boats; occasionally tree climbing and use of jack hammer.
  8. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and walk over uneven surfaces and work in extreme weather conditions.
  9. Possession of a valid driver’s license
  10. Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, DMV check and clear annual TB test.
