A123 Systems, LLC is hiring a System Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems at our Novi, MI location.

As a System Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of energy storage projects. Your primary focus will be on system-level integration, ensuring the seamless operation and performance of energy storage systems within the broader energy infrastructure. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, and project managers, to deliver efficient, reliable, and cost-effective energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • System Design and Integration:
    • Collaborate with the design team to develop system architecture and define system requirements for energy storage projects.
    • Conduct feasibility studies, analyze technical constraints, and propose optimized solutions for integrating energy storage systems into existing or new energy infrastructure.
    • Work closely with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure proper integration and coordination of various system components.
    • Develop and review technical specifications, system design documentation, and interface control documents.
  • System Modeling and Simulation:
    • Perform system-level simulations to evaluate system behavior, identify potential issues, and optimize system performance.
    • Collaborate with simulation engineers to validate and improve system models and develop accurate performance predictions.
  • System Control and Monitoring:
    • Design, develop, and implement control strategies and algorithms to ensure the safe and efficient operation of energy storage systems.
    • Collaborate with software developers to integrate control systems with energy management systems and supervisory control systems.
    • Implement monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to identify system anomalies, troubleshoot issues, and improve system reliability and performance.
  • System Testing and Commissioning:
    • Coordinate and participate in testing activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
    • Analyze test data, identify potential improvements, and propose corrective actions to optimize system performance.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare technical reports, system documentation, to ensure proper documentation of system design, implementation, and operation.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, stakeholders, and customers.
    • Keep abreast of the latest developments, trends, and advancements in energy storage technologies and system integration methodologies.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of energy storage technologies, including batteries.
  • Proficiency in system engineering principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience with system modeling and simulation software.
  • Familiarity with power electronics, control systems, and grid integration requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations for energy storage systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
