Role: Battery Design Engineer
Location: Irvine, CA (This role will start out remote then report to the Irvine office when Rivian returns to the office.)
Duration: 6 Months
This is what you’ll do:
- Packaging design for lithium-ion battery cells
- Electronics packaging
- Electrical busbar design
- Thermal management of electrical components
- Plastic part design
- Bent/stamped part design
- Design for automotive manufacturing processes
- Interface with CAE and Validation teams for design validation
- DRE activities as required
This is what you’ll need:
- Familiarity with lithium ion cell chemistries and form factors
- Injection molding design experience
- Bent/stamped part design experience
- Understanding of electrical systems and basic circuit analysis
- Working knowledge of Joule heating analysis
- Strong understanding of heat transfer, especially with fluids (thermal stack up, coolant loops, gasket design, etc.)
- Familiarity with automotive powertrain requirements
- Familiarity with automotive testing and validation process
- SolidWorks and/or CATIA V6 experience
- FEA experience preferred
- 5+ years industry experience or 3+ years with Masters Degree
Comments for Suppliers:

Knowledge of Catia V5 (V6 preferred)
FEA knowledge- know what questions to ask and what the answers should sound like.
Candidates MUST have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical preferred)
Parts we need Engineering Design are plastic injection molding and busbars and stamping and drawings.
