Job Summary


The role of the process engineer is to evaluate existing processes and identify systems that improve production, reliability, and sustainability, reduce cost, and develop best practices. The process engineer works as part of a diverse team to evaluate and implement solutions that safely and efficiently meet production goals while maintaining high ethical and compliance standards. They will provide plant engineering technical support in the day-to-day operations of the Peoria Corn Processing Plant.


Essential Job Functions

  • Develop an understanding of various plant processes. 
  • Gather data and analyze existing processes for cost savings, reliability, and performance improvement opportunities. 
  • Coordinate with plant groups to implement process changes.
  • Work with a variety of production and maintenance colleagues to safely meet daily operational needs.
  • Support operation and supervision requirements during occasional shutdown and weekend coverage. 
  • Provide process knowledge to major capital projects.
  • Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements.
  • Actively participates in training and mentors fellow employees.
  • Manages resources and monitors status of projects to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Commitment to working safely, maintaining environmental compliance, and producing quality products.
  • Able to work in a variety of plant environments including confined spaces, elevated heights, inside, and outside and ability to climb stairs is required. 
  • Excellent organizational skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with employees at all levels in the organization. 
  • Able to understand and comply with plant GMP and personnel practice requirements.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering is required.

Experience

  • 1-5 years of experience in a continuous process operating plant environment, preferably in a corn processing plant.
  • Familiarity with P&ID's, Control Narratives, quality and environmental documentation, mechanical troubleshooting capability and general knowledge of controller hardware/software is preferred.
  • Project Management experience a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 55 pounds overhead.
    • Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during a workday.
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting. Frequently during a workday. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing. 
  • May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights. 
  • Requires a full range of physical motion to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move      throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively over the radio and telephone.
