Responsibilites
- Responsible for Rivian’s Export Controls Compliance Program, including determining export classifications and respective controls, drafting and maintenance of export controls policies and procedure;
- Manage North American export and Canada import compliance operations and team;
- Develop staff including goal setting, performance, coaching, teamwork, and projects;
- Develop and foster relationships with internal departments, Logistics, Operations, Finance, Procurement, and other areas involved in import/export activities;
- Responsible for drafting and submission of CCATS rulings and export licenses, on both products and foreign nationals;
- Collaborate with Rivian core technology engineers (i.e., ADAS, Sensors, Battery/Cell development) in identifying proper ECCNs and advising on future regulatory impact to respective departments;
- Responsible for filing annual ENC report with NSA/BIS, including appropriate use of ENC exemption on Rivian technologies and workforce;
- Work with technical recruiters and hiring managers on any export licensing requirements, including supporting Rivian’s Serbia tech center;
- Maintain and communicate compliance operating procedures for US and Canada, to help employees understand and follow laws and regulations governing the importation and exportation of commodities;
- Supervise ad-hoc international vehicle events, including use of appropriate temporary import licenses, exemptions, and carnets in foreign jurisdictions;
- Conduct and help develop training with various internal departments on regulations, procedures, and trade compliance related topics to ensure compliance awareness and adherence to import/export regulations;
- Support the Director of Trade Compliance in strategic initiatives involving company growth opportunities, trade compliance and other directives;
- Actively monitor North American trade legislation and other developments, advising management on trends, business risks and mitigation strategies, as appropriate;
- Support projects, research, analysis, and other special assignments as needed to minimize risk and maximize opportunities;
- Document and maintain operating procedures as needed for US and Canada imports and exports;
- Canadian Broker management (including broker business rules) and scorecard;
- Supervise the internal audit of Canadian import and U.S. export transactions;
- Responsible for Denied Party Screening.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree;
- 10+ years relevant experience in a complex import/export environment;
- Automotive experience strongly preferred;
- Export Controls experience required;
- Expert knowledge of U.S. export trade regulations, ECCNs, commodity classifications, and emerging technologies;
- Expertise in SNAP-R;
- Knowledge of UK and E.U. Dual-Use Regulations a plus;
- Ability to function both as a team lead and player with the ability to shift priorities as required by the trade compliance team and business operations;
- Highly organized; ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- GTM System, ACE Portal, and experience with Integration Point a bonus.
