The Opportunity and Position Summary
The Rewiring America team continues to grow, which means we’re consistently building our creative and communications offerings to educate and inspire people on their electrification journeys! Our brand is well-established online, and we’re ready to activate IRL. That’s where you come in. This role will report to the Head of Communications, Creative, & Consumer Engagement.
We are seeking a passionate and resourceful Director, Events to support the Communications team at large, to act as a conduit in bringing our data, policy, and big ideas to Rewiring America’s vast constituents. We’re looking for a curious event visionary and producer, someone who loves distilling complex messages into compelling experiences, from intimate policy dinners to large-scale electrification summits. We’re also looking for someone who can strategize the most effective events for us, thinking through how we can achieve our objectives through well-designed experiences.
In this newly created role, the Director, Events will produce events and conferences that shift electrification perceptions, grow relationships, and build the capacity to #ElectrifyEverything in our communities.
This Director must be skilled at building relationships with a wide array of stakeholders. Working directly with the C-Suite, as well as leaders from Communications and Marketing, Policy and Research, and Community and Market Partnerships, they’ll translate Rewiring America’s strategic vision into a slate of compelling events. Success in the role is defined by bringing innovation and creativity into developing compelling and cohesive world-class experiences to events, partners, and attendees, as well as event experiences that drive brand growth.
The Director will manage external relationships with vendors, contractors, keynote speakers and panelists, influential media and other guests, coalition members, and corporate and institutional partners. They will provide comprehensive event planning coordination and support, which may include site selection, contract negotiations, vendor management, logistical management, registration, event programming, and event production.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced event producer, as well as a leader and manager of both people and projects, and bring strong organizational skills and top-notch attention to detail to the position. They will have impeccable discretion, a problem-solving mindset, and excellent relationship-building skills. The Director will initially oversee external agencies and vendors, and eventually oversee a full-time Event Producer.
What You’ll do
Complete a variety of project management activities, including but not limited to:
- Lead the creation of events from ideation to delivery, with guidance from our Head of Communications, Creative, and Consumer Engagement.
- Partner with departments across the organization to craft compelling programming, ideating everything from keynote speakers to panel discussions and media touchpoints.
- Identify and work with external partners to bring our activations to life, owning every touchpoint from invitation to closing remarks.
- Establish and strengthen the in-real-life experience of our brand, ensuring unity and polish across all touchpoints.
Who You Are

- Strong commitment to the mission, policies, and goals of Rewiring America.
- Around 7 years of increasing responsibility in event planning and management
- Around 3 years of people management experience, directly overseeing full-time employees, contractors, or vendors
- The ability to navigate challenging situations and personalities with diplomacy and fairness
- Comfort navigating competing demands and activating backup plans
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while providing exemplary service
- Experience owning a budget, with knowledge of financial processes from forecasting to reconciliation
- Ability to negotiate with vendors and partners to ensure the highest value and quality of services for our investments

Compensation
Benefits
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 USD commensurate with experience. Our comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also provided with two additional days off during Presidential and Congressional elections. We have an office closure between Christmas and New Year. Regular, full-time employees and part-time employees are eligible for up to sixteen weeks of paid family and medical leave on day one of employment. We offer access to professional development resources.
