Job Description Position Overview: As an Offshore Project Engineer, you will assist with the coordination of design and engineering activities for those Invenergy’s projects located in Japan, including the evaluation of commercial and utility-scale offshore wind projects in development, followed by technical remote supervision during project execution in the construction and commissioning phase. Responsibilities: Design & Engineering Coordinate development work and other activities with the local Invenergy team located in the Japan office helping to bridge communications with the main corporate located in Chicago Manage international engineering consultants and contractors specialized in a variety of designs for offshore projects located in Japan Work in collaboration with other engineers and managers in the Offshore Engineering group to provide solutions to solve complex problems Coordinate design efforts across the engineering team assigned to offshore wind farms located in Japan Prepare and supervise technical documentation for requisitions and solicitations to be used with contractors and other third parties for projects located in Japan Liaise with OEMs, technologists, and manufacturers, to adapt designs according to the best industry practices and most recent design trends and products Optimize designs in collaboration with consultants and manufacturers Specify and evaluate equipment and review/evaluate proposals in collaboration with consultants Work in collaboration with the local development team to identify issues and project risks Work in collaboration with the offshore engineering, procurement and construction team to deconflict the project based on known findings and risks Work and collaborate with the commercial and finance teams to provide necessary cost modeling inputs, and collaborate on cost optimization Coordinate work with other areas inside the organization as follows: Procurement Provide technical documentation package for SOIs, RFPs, RFQs or any other Participate in weekly calls with OEMs to support in a technical manner Establish technical requirements in discussions with contractors and manufacturers Evaluate contractors’ technical proposals Permitting and real estate Collaborate with the real state team to coordinate efforts for rights-of-way and easements Collaborate with the permitting team to prepare the required documentation package to secure permits Construction Work with other groups in the organization to optimize site design before construction starts Collaborate along project execution to clarify technical queries and other questions Assist and participate during commissioning Engineering best practice Collaborate in in-house technical documentation for the offshore engineering team, including best practices, Owner’s requirements, amongst others Collaborate creating internal tools & templates for offshore design Attend relevant external training, workshops and conferences Support internal trainings and workshops, as required by the company Provide periodic reports to management as needed EPC&I contractors Liaise with EPC contractors to understand design concerns and constraints, providing solutions to those Coordinate periodic calls and meetings with contractors to organize work in the most efficient way Analyze risks proactively, providing solutions for those Monitor project activities and progress from main office Analyze progress reports to correct deviations and deficiencies Required Skills: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering or related technical discipline. Minimum 3 years but desirable 5 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, oil & gas or the offshore industry in general. Fluent Japanese is mandatory Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Ability to multi-task and manage deliverables for multiple projects at a time Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated interest in offshore renewable energy Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications: Direct experience in offshore wind engineering or offshore oil & gas industry Site experience in projects under construction Experience managing interfaces between contractors and consultants Be an effective leader and communicator - strong verbal skills are required High degree of integrity and understanding of ethical industry standards International travels may be required.
