350.org is a global climate network, with 165 staff in 35 countries. We advocate for, and with communities impacted by the climate crisis. Over the last decade, we have seeded, trained and supported over 500 grassroots activist groups in over 70 countries. In 2022, we launched an ambitious new strategy, focusing on driving the just and equitable transition to 100% renewable energy. With this new strategy, we have increased our income targets over the next five years. Our experienced fundraisers are based in the UK, Spain and the US. We have two Institutional Foundations Managers - one in the UK, and one in the US, who both manage a large portfolio of donors, and report directly to the Director of Global Fundraising. This year, we want to expand the large grants portfolio, and secure multi-year partnerships from a range of donors in Europe, Africa, Asia and USA.
We are, therefore, looking to bring in an experienced Freelance Technical Grants Writer responsible for applying a high level of technical and creative writing skills to proposals to foundations, corporations, and governments. The consultant works as a part of a dynamic fundraising team and liaises with a global team of climate activists. This is a part-time position to support the US Institutional Foundations Manager with technical grant writing and prospecting new donors.
Key responsibilities:
- Write compelling technical grant applications for large international foundations and public sector funders.
- Research and identify new donor prospects which match 350.org’s mission, goals and values, with minimum grant sizes of $100,000/year.
- Develop grant content and budgets, and prepare grant proposal packets for submission.
- Collaborate with the 350.org global team to develop narrative content and budgets for proposals.
- Maintain clear and accurate written and electronic records of grant proposals, reports, donor communications through Salesforce and shared drives.
- Special projects as assigned in support of organizational objectives.
Required qualifications:
- Experience with writing multi-million dollar proposals for foundations and governments
- Minimum of ten years of fundraising experience for international organisations, securing income from multi-year grants from large international grant- giving foundationsHighly energetic professional with a proven track record and talent for building relationships, securing six and seven digit gifts and managing a pipeline of foundation relationships
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications, and editing skills
- Experience with Salesforce or other CRM databases used for fundraising purposes
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, work effectively with remote teams
- Experience working in the climate, environment or social justice space is preferred
Compensation Commensurate with Experience
Contract 2 days/month from February 2023
Daily Rate: $500
Location: Remote, US/North American time zones
Reporting to: US Institutional Foundations Manager
