GreenBiz Group seeks a Food Systems Analyst/Senior Food Systems Analyst to join our collaborative and committed team. The Analyst/Senior Analyst will work to grow and nurture the community of food and agriculture professionals engaging with GreenBiz. This includes building the Food Program, one of six that comprise our flagship VERGE event; leading the food components of other Greenbiz events, and curating the Food Weekly newsletter. Shedding light on the key trends, technologies, and leaders in food systems transformation lies at the heart of this role.
This role will report to the Director and Senior Analyst, Nature and Food Systems, and collaborate closely with other GreenBiz analysts. Beyond the responsibilities outlined below, additional duties may emerge as business needs for this position evolve.
Overall compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus or commission if sales) for this role will be provided commensurate with years of experience and qualifications within the following range: $90,000 - $120,000 (Analyst) $120,000 - $170,000 (Senior Analyst), plus benefits plus health and wellness benefits.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Director and Senior Analyst, Nature and Food Systems:
Event Curation
Lead the development and execution of the Food Program and associated activities at VERGE, including:
- Strategic partnerships and positioning.
- Spearhead the development of an advisory board and conduct interviews to understand and synthesize the landscape, informing sessions and positioning.
- Identify and engage new audiences in the food sector (from practitioners to trade associations) to support the strategic growth of the Food Program.
- Develop best-in-class programming.
- Define the scope and focus of the Food Program and develop content accordingly, including crafting sessions, tutorials, and workshops.
- Moderate sessions and facilitate workshops throughout the event.
- Identify and recruit content partners, moderators, and speakers to bring content to life.
- Constantly reflect on the impact of offerings to ensure content is serving the community well. Be creative and iterate on formats, structures and ideas.
- Review and evaluate speaker proposals related to the Food Program
- Create opportunities for attendees to interact with sustainable food companies and organizations during the event, such as in food marketplaces and cooking demonstrations
- Support the broader VERGE team’s success.
- Provide feedback on applications for the food component of the VERGE Accelerate startup pitch competition
- Identify strategic organizations to become VERGE partners and support the partnership team in making the connection.
- Work with the sales team to identify, engage and work with sponsors, including finding high-value thought leadership opportunities.
- Be a willing, flexible and enthusiastic team member, ready to take on additional small tasks as needed to support the VERGE content and operations teams
- Develop food and agriculture-related programming for other GreenBiz events, including GreenBiz, Circularity, GreenFin, and VERGE Net Zero, in collaboration with the respective event leads
Writing and Analysis
- Contribute to the GreenBiz editorial and media organization, including:
- Stay on top of news, trends, announcements, policies, and investments shaping food systems.
- Synthesize information and author the majority of the Food Weekly newsletter that comes out Thursday mornings and highlights trends, analysis, and news about sustainable food systems, including topics like regenerative agriculture, indoor farming, alternative proteins, food waste reduction, and more
- Contribute additional articles to GreenBiz.com
Operational Food Sustainability
- Build out the sustainable food service policy for GreenBiz Group in line with the company’s net-zero strategy; collaborate with the operations team and partner organizations to implement it across events and team gatherings, and evaluate its impact
Strategy and Partnerships
- Work with the Director and Senior Analyst, Nature and Food Systems to scope growth opportunities for GreenBiz Group in food systems, including in the areas of:
- Deeper strategic partnerships with food and agriculture organizations
- Peer networks
- Additional digital events and digital content
Requirements
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- 2-5 years of relevant experience working in food systems transformation in the private sector, media, government, or a non-profit
- Breadth and depth of knowledge and interest in critical food systems issues, including regenerative agriculture, shifting diets, food waste, and emerging technologies
- Understanding of the leading stakeholders and frameworks in climate, food, and agriculture
