The Role
As the APAC Routing Manager, you will be leading an international Wayfinder team to oversee and support a number of mission-critical operational tasks. Wayfinder maximizes voyage earnings and safety for all our vessels at sea. Our route optimization engine is powered by the global Spotter weather sensor network, providing unique realtime observational data to produce the most accurate marine weather forecasts available, anywhere.
You’ll be responsible for daily oversight and management of routing operations and processes to ensure route advice services are carried out efficiently, while ensuring maritime customers receive exceptional service. You will communicate with the vessel and shoreside teams to provide the best-in-class routing guidance. You’ll also drive the team growth planning and recruitment in the APAC region.
Responsibilities
- Actively train all members on new features, processes and workflows.
- Support the growth and performance of team members with regular check-ins.
- Collaborate with Customer Success teams to ensure routing and customer alignment.
- Provide decision support for route comparisons, adverse weather decisions and customer relations based on experience and Sofar’s industry-leading weather models.
- Provide best-in-class customer support via email, phone and video calls.
- Utilize our custom vessel performance models, best maritime weather models and internal applications to provide timely insights to customers.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Extensive experience in meteorology or maritime-related background.
- Bachelor’s degree in oceanography, climatology, and/or geography.
- Experience working in the shipping or maritime industry, specifically with ship or weather routing.
- Strong understanding of mid and long-range forecasting and weather patterns.
- Experience building and leading a high-performance team supporting clients in the maritime space.
- Comfortable with data analysis, modern web applications, and python.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, communicating with customers and colleagues around the globe.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills with an ability to collaborate across time zones.
- Ability to work weekend rotations (days are compensated back during the week).
- A passion for and/or connection to the oceans.
