Industrial Estimator

Our client is a leading industrial mechanical contractor and they are currently seeking an Industrial Estimator.

 

Great direct hire opportunity in Northern California. The position can be based in the Pittsburg or in Sacramento. Full-time in the office.

 

The primary responsibility of the Estimator is to ensure that all estimates are developed, evaluated, and submitted in accordance with plans and specifications.

Site Preparation, Boiler Erection, including Ducting & SCR Systems, Underground Piping Systems, Equipment Erection, Setting& Alignment, Cooling Tower Erection, Air Cooled Condenser Erection, Ancillary Equipment Setting, Pipe and Modular Shop Fabrication. Material Handling Systems, Structural Steel, Process Piping, Utility Piping, BOP Piping, HRSG Erection, SCR Systems, Commission Support and Startup, ASME Code Work, ASME Code Stamps: U, PP, S and NBIC Code Stamp: R, Demolition, Combustion and Steam Turbine Setting and Alignment, Foundations, Instrumentation, HVAC Piping Systems.

Basic duties of the Estimator are:

  • Attend the Pre bid meetings.
  • Read the Request for Proposal, bid documents, specifications, and drawings to fully determine the scope of work.
  • Prepare material take offs and labor takeoffs for the estimate.
  • Prepare subcontractor packages for bid using the Request for Proposal form to specify specific scope, schedule, and misc. requirements.
  • Assuring coordination with the client's subcontractor and ensuring new subcontractors are pre-qualified.
  • Secure a minimum of three bids for subcontractors and material pricing (as applicable).
  • Analyze each sub and material bid to make sure scope is understood and covered adequately.
  • Choose the subcontractor or vendor whose proposal best fits the project requirements based on price, service, and timeliness.
  • Prepare the estimate objectively in a manner such that every scope item is covered on the estimate summary sheet.
  • Review all proposals with the Estimating Manager or his designate for final adds, deletes, and profit and overhead mark-ups.
  • Prepare and distribute Contractual Commercial Documents to Contract Review Team for review and comments - Include comments in Bid Letter Clarifications.
  • Prepare the bid letter including clarifications and exclusions.
  • Make sure by any measure necessary that the bid is submitted on time.
  • In the event of project award, review the estimate compared to the contract prior to management signing the contract to make sure the bid and clarifications are reflected in the contract.
  • Prepare the agenda, schedule and conduct the Pre-Job Meeting to hand the project from estimating to Projects. Ensuring all departments are in attendance.
  • Provide consultation to the Project Managers to help them analyze and understand the project and the bid.
  • Review the list of potential subcontractors with the company's Subcontractor Coordinator to assure the acceptability, and/or confirm the level of attention required by  for a particular subcontractor (i.e.- a safety person assigned to watch subcontractor.) Have the Safety Department send the potential subcontractor's the Safety Questionnaire Package to subs that are not current or not on file.

Requirements:

  • The candidate for Industrial Estimator must be capable of bidding projects small to large ($1000 -$30MM+). Able to bid projects turnkey with multiple disciplines of work (e.g. Pipefitter, Millwright,
  • Boilermaker, Ironworker, Carpenter, Laborer). Able to work in a fast paced and sometimes high stress construction environment.
  • Able to successfully be part of a team and work towards common goals.
  • High attention to detail, excellent math skills, self-starter, can adapt to new situations easily, ethical, confident, and trustworthy. Understands how to scrub and verify subcontract and vendor quotes.
  • Strong writing skills - formulate execution plans, creates schedules (MS Projects, etc.) and related bid deliverables. Understands pre-planning, how to sequence work scopes and plan field execution strategies during the bid cycle. Capable of conceptual estimating, quantity take-off, use independent judgement in calculating quantities, costs, and schedules.
  • Able to bid Lump Sum, Time and Materials, Fixed Fee/Cost Reimbursable and other types of contracts.
  • Ability to provide the highest levels of customer service (internal and external).
  • Looking for 5-10 years' experience with an emphasis on piping and civil/concrete takeoff/bidding experience.

 

Annual salary: $130000-$140000 based on experience.
