Job Summary:
Mississippi Aquarium is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Janitor to help maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout our facility. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and animals by performing routine cleaning and maintenance duties.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, public areas, offices, and employee spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect floors and surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins, replacing liners as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in guest areas, including windows, doors, and exhibits.
  • Respond to spills and other cleaning emergencies promptly.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and restroom necessities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines for cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Previous janitorial or housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Willingness to take direction and coaching from experienced staff members to improve your skills and enhance the guest experience. 
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced job and remain courteous, friendly and helpful to guests and staff always.
 
Work Environment:
  • Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and potentially wet or slippery surfaces.
Position may involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous an unpredictable animal species, and potentially dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs.  Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required. (e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns)

  • Attendance & Appearance - To maximize the guest’s experience, all Team Members are required to adhere to Mississippi Aquarium standard operating procedures regarding attendance and dress code policies as they relate to individual job functionality. Tattoos and piercings must be appropriate and in keeping with a professional image. Depending on the work area, management reserves the right to determine whether tattoos will need to be covered during your shift.
