SUMMARY:

While contributing to a great visitor experience, the First Aid Specialist is responsible for provision of first aid to Vancouver Aquarium staff, volunteers and guests. This role participates in shift rotation including days, evenings, weekends and/or overnight shifts so flexibility of availability is required.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Provides first aid and support by:

  • Assisting to ensure Aquarium compliance with WorkSafeBC first aid and safety regulations;
  • Responding to first aid calls and providing first aid for staff, volunteers and guests;
  • Assisting with the maintenance, auditing and stocking of first aid equipment;
  • Properly completing and filing first aid and security incident reports.

Provides Security team support by:

  • Fulfilling access control requests;
  • Managing key inventory;
  • Assisting Security Guards with the monitoring of Aquarium property and personnel, but does not include the undertaking of duties reserved for licensed security workers.

 Enhance the overall Vancouver Aquarium visitor experience by:

  • Being open and friendly, and answering questions as required, or referring questions to someone who can assist;
  • Actively ensuring a great visitor experience;

 Improve the Vancouver Aquarium and its processes by:

  • Assisting with development of emergency protocols;
  • Maintaining organizational safety standards;
  • Reducing environmental impact and supporting “greening” of operations;
  • Demonstrating the organization’s values and expectations for conduct;
  • Performing Security team support duties as required.

       

      QUALIFICATIONS

       

      Education and Experience

      • Required - Secondary school diploma;
      • Required - Occupational First Aid Level 3 / Advanced First Aid;
      • Preferred - One year experience as an OFAA;
      • Preferred - Experience working in the tourism sector.
      • Preferred - Emergency Medical Responder certification or equivalent.

      • Have good verbal and written communication skills
      • Can communicate effectively with audiences of all ages;
      • Can remain calm and respond effectively in challenging situations;
      • Be self-motivated and work effectively under minimal supervision; 
      • Can work independently, but also be an active team member; 
      • Can learn and adapt in a constantly changing environment
      • Has good Microsoft Office Suite skills.

         

        Working Conditions

        • Situations requiring the lifting and carrying up to 20 kg;
        • Walking and standing for extended periods of time;
        • Required to carry a radio and be accessible for calls;
        • Indoor and outdoor environment;
        • Variable schedule, including evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.

         

        SALARY RANGE:  $24 - $34 PER HOUR
