Position Commercial Solar Designer
Description

As a Commercial Designer, you will be directly working with the Commercial Evaluators, Commercial Guide, and Operations team to ensure that all commercial projects maintain exceptional levels of quality and customer satisfaction. This includes all aspects of solar design such as 3D modeling, sunlight simulations, precise utility bill analyses, structured proposals, and project plan sets. Each Designer is responsible for their assigned deals and will be expected to assist in any design needs for each project, from new leads to completed installation.

Qualifications

Commercial Designers serve as an essential bridge between our Operations team and our Sales team. Must be able to quickly understand widely varying site conditions and design requirements, and incorporate electrical and structural engineering concepts to create detailed and accurate plan sets. Must be ready and flexible to changes. We regularly make adjustments to our financing, our equipment, our design requirements, and our process - to gain efficiency, to actively incorporate new code and manufacturer guidance, and to better provide affordable solar solutions to our Appalachian neighbors. Must be comfortable creating and operating under a tight schedule in order to meet project deadlines while handling several projects simultaneously. Expectations include interfacing with licensed engineers, building officials, project managers, and other teammates, in a professional capacity, in order to bring designs, permit plan sets, and projects to timely completion.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Complete 3D models and shading assessments of prospective solar sites.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the limitations or guidelines of the different jurisdictions in which we operate

  • Design various types of solar installations: pitched and flat roof mount, ground mount, solar canopy, etc.

  • Determine best components such as inverter sizing and panel wattage/type for various projects

  • Balance project costs, customer expectations, and design limitations and standards to build compelling solar proposals.

  • Complete bill analysis, utilize utility rate calculators, read various types of utility documentation, and interpret utility tariffs

  • Ensure accurate pricing based on equipment and system size.

  • Work with subcontractors, as needed, to price specialized components of project development and installation, and incorporate that pricing into our customer proposals.

  • Understand project complexity and identify relevant cost adders

  • Work with our Master Electricians and electrical consultancy to complete construction-level designs for permitting and installation.
