We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Carbon Capture Specialist to advance COWI’s position as a leading engineering partner in industrial Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing CCUS processes for hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, and metallurgical production processes. This position represents a unique and exciting opportunity to decarbonize critical industries through a combination of chemical process engineering, techno-economic evaluation, and regulatory advisory across cross-functional teams to realize sustainable transformations in business and society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, communicate, and execute comprehensive CCUS strategies aligned with regulatory frameworks and industry best practices, together with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design and optimize CCUS systems, especially related post-combustion capture facilities, intermediate storage & transport infrastructure, and host plant integration.
  • Co-ordinate and execute feasibility studies, risk assessments, and economic evaluations to determine the viability of CCUS projects, including considerations for complimentary host plant decarbonization investments such as alternative fuels, energy recovery, and CO2 preservation for overall cost minimization.
  • Facilitate Power-to-X and CO2 utilization projects by managing interfaces between carbon capture departments and utilization departments, for example to enable CO2 offtake for the production of eFuels or plastics.
  • Stay informed on emerging CCUS technologies, regulations, and industry trends to drive innovation and ensure COWI’s position at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field.

Your Skills, Our Team. Together, we design the future

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with colleagues, partners and customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
You will also possess:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial process engineering. Experience from industries such as cement, steel, oil & gas or similar would be advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of CCUS processes, with a strong understanding of CO2 capture technologies and methods for CO2 transport & storage. Experience with cryogenic carbon capture may be especially beneficial.
  • Proficiency in conducting site assessments, risk analyses, and economic evaluations for CCUS projects. Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and market-driving policies such as EU CBAM, RED III, Fit for 55, 45Q, and similar would be beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges and optimize CCUS systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and lead interdisciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Aspen Plus and/or ThermoFlex would be beneficial.
