Job Description:
Join Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium team as a Zooventure Guide! This exciting career development pathway program is designed for teens who have completed 9th, 10th, and 11th grades and are interested in learning about conservation, education, and wildlife. Zooventure Guides will engage zoo guests through our free and fun Zooventure program by facilitating interactive conservation-themed activities. In addition to directly engaging with zoo guests, Zooventure Guides will also participate in workshops and training sessions designed to develop valuable job skills and explore careers within the conservation and nonprofit sectors. It’s the best of both worlds – gain valuable knowledge and skills on the job, while receiving guidance and support from zoo staff and educators. This is a part-time position with Guides working three guest engagement shifts per week - Thursdays through Sundays. Additionally, Zooventure Guides will attend a career exploration and skills workshop session on Wednesday or Saturday of each week.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Greet and engage visitors at Zooventure stations and provide a positive experience.
- Set up and break down stations daily.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to engage with people of all ages, especially families and children.
- Ability to work well with others in a dynamic, team-focused environment.
Qualifications:
- Completing 9th, 10th, or 11th grade by June 1, 2025.
- 15+ years of age (15-year-old applicants will need to provide a Nebraska Department of Labor Employment Certificate, available from your school faculty or the NDL website).
- Must be able to attend in person one of the offered training dates: May 3, May 10, or May 17.
- Consistent availability for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts is required May 22 through July 27.
- Must have reliable transportation, personal or public, to and from work.
