Branch Description:
 
The Development Manager, One Tam is part of the Development and Membership branch, a team of 18 staff members that leads our organization-wide fundraising efforts. This includes a robust range of programs— membership, major gifts, events, legacy gifts, grants, and other special campaigns, initiatives, and fundraising efforts. The Development team is critical to identifying, engaging, stewarding, and leveraging philanthropic, public, and individual support to continue to invest meaningfully in the work and mission of the Parks Conservancy in supporting our Bay Area national parklands. This role in particular focusses on One Tam, an initiative of the Parks Conservancy. One Tam is a ten-year-old partnership between the land managers on Mount Tamalpais. Together with the philanthropic and capacity building support of the Parks Conservancy, the partnership stewards the lands on Mt. Tam, conducting conservation and scientific efforts on a mountain-wide scale. An ideal candidate in this role would have an appreciation for our public lands, in particular the spectacular biodiversity and recreation offered by Mt. Tam and Marin County at large. As part of this work, staff also lead a number of key volunteer committees to create shared ownership and deepen our community outreach and impact to meet and exceed revenue goals.
 
Position Overview:
 
The Development Manager oversees all aspects of the One Tam membership (annual gifts less than $1,000) and One Tam Circle programs (individual annual gifts of $1,000 and up), to ensure growth through consistent and effective outreach to donors through personal connections, events, and renewal and acquisition efforts. This role also leads One Tam’s outreach and fundraising committee, the One Tam Advisory Council, which is staffed by Parks Conservancy board members and community volunteers. The Development Manager is an integral member of the One Tam development and outreach efforts and reports directly to the Director of Individual Giving. This is a full-time exempt position.
 
This position is located at Park Headquarters at 102 Fort Mason and 1600 Los Gamos in San Rafael. Work is performed in an office setting, including a mix of telework and on-site. This role is required to perform work on-site a total of 3 days per week, including a mandatory Thursday at our Fort Mason office. Additionally, this role is required to work 3 days per month out of the Los Gamos office. Due to the nature of this role, travel is required throughout Marin County, often to somewhat remote areas of Mount Tamalpais.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
 
Membership and Donor Cultivation, Stewardship, and Solicitation
  • Design annual strategy, develop revenue goals, and successfully generate revenue for One Tam individual giving and general membership programs in collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving
  • Create and implement comprehensive engagement strategy for One Tam individual giving program, including managing annual renewal fund and twice-yearly acquisition and appeal campaigns
  • Develop and implement personalized upgrade campaigns for One Tam General membership inviting them to join the One Tam Circle
  • In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving, qualify One Tam Circle members for major gift solicitations and major gift support
  • Manage relationship with external consultants for One Tam general membership direct mail and online renewal programs
  • On a weekly basis, track and report progress towards revenue goals, including preparation of financial and donor reports
  • Develop and monitor One Tam development budget in partnership with Director of Individual Giving
  • Manage the timely processing of One Tam gifts and acknowledgments, including personalization of acknowledgments for One Tam Circle donors ($1000+)
  • Ensure accuracy of One Tam annual report donor list and engage appropriate staff in review
Committee Management
  • Provide support to Director of Individual Giving in agenda creation, meeting facilitation and coordination for the One Tam Advisory Council
  • Contribute to our goal of increasing committed active participation of current members and recruiting new Advisory Council members by identifying prospects from One Tam and Conservancy members and donors
  • Provide support, resources and training for members to become effective advocates and fundraisers
  • Develop orientation and onboarding materials for new committee members
  • Provide reports on individual giving fundraising efforts to committee, including revenue reports
One Tam Donor and Member Events and Stewardship
  • Working closely with Events Director and One Tam program staff, develop and deliver calendar of One Tam donor and member events, including our annual stewardship event for One Tam Circle members and major donors
  • Communicate with supporters, volunteers and the public by responding to phone and email inquiries
  • Contribute to the creation of quarterly-newsletters
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications colleagues to ensure that One Tam events are visible through social media and online channels
  • Oversee internal calendar of One Tam fundraising events in coordination with Development and One Tam program staff
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • 3+ years in a nonprofit development role preferred
  • Strong organizational and group management skills. Ability to simultaneously meet multiple deadlines for various projects
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, motivated to work independently and comfortable working across many teams to achieve fundraising goals
  • Flexible and adaptable, takes initiative, and manages multiple tasks and projects with great attention to detail
  • Superior interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to influence and engage donors and build long-term relationships
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills to contribute to a positive and dynamic team culture.
  • Strong ability to effectively work on diverse teams or with a diverse range of people, on complex projects and programs.
  • Ability to effectively lead, inspire and communicate with diverse audiences
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general database applications (Raisers Edge or Luminate Online preferred)

Salary/Benefits:  $75,000 to $79,000, Grade 16.  Benefits include medical, dental, and vision plans; up to 3 weeks of vacation time plus holidays, personal, and sick days; Employee Assistance Program; retirement plan; employer-matched Commuter Program; employee discounts and more.
