Job Description

Schneider Electric has a meaningful opportunity for a Senior Power Systems Engineer in a hybrid role (2 days per week on-site) at one of Schneider Electric’s HUBs in Nashville, TN, or Raleigh, NC. Position Summary

  • You will join our Innovation and Technology team as a Senior Power Systems Engineer to expand our expertise in advanced systems and electrical distribution
  • You will collaborate with multiple teams across various business units and expertise groups, driving innovation and addressing new challenges in electrical distribution—from protection and control to safety and standards

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex problems deeply to evaluate multifaceted factors
  • Lead and manage studies and investigations within project streams that have a global impact
  • Exhibit autonomy and leadership in anticipatory topics where critical thinking is crucial for success
  • Conduct feasibility studies for new technologies and assess their integration into existing power systems
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices in power systems engineering
  • Participate in the development of training programs to enhance team knowledge on emerging technologies
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for stakeholders to communicate findings and recommendations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge in direct current is crucial for integrating Photovoltaics (PV) and batteries in Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)
  • Expertise in transient recovery voltage is essential
  • Model behavior of electrical distribution (ED) equipment
  • Develop protection algorithms
  • Optimize power systems and conduct transient analysis, including switching over voltages and Insulation Coordination
  • Master at least one or two simulation tools and be willing to implement studies in the Mathworks environment
  • Use models to guide stakeholders towards optimized architectural solutions based on specific KPIs
  • Proficient in Matlab, Simulink, Sim power systems, PSCAD, EMTP-ATP, Power Factory

 

Preferences

  • Enhance systems for microgrids and Advanced Distribution Management Systems
  • Innovate in smart grids, Renewable Energy (REN) integration, and Distribution Network Planning
  • Maintain and update the power systems model library within the team and lead projects within your scope
  • A PhD or demonstrated seniority in the field is highly valued
