Community Engagement Organizer - Environmental Justice

Full-Time • Hybrid - US
 The Community Engagement Organizer – Environmental Justice will lead advocacy, policy, and community engagement efforts at ULMS to address environmental justice issues disproportionately impacting BIPOC and marginalized communities. This role seeks a candidate with a passion for environmental justice, policy-making experience, and expertise in event planning and community forum facilitation. The organizer will analyze and track environmental policies and issues related to air and water quality, climate justice, and environmental health disparities, educating staff and the community while developing civic engagement initiatives that empower residents to advocate for cleaner, healthier communities. This position will lead environmental justice events and other engagement activities as assigned, ensuring that historically disenfranchised communities have a voice in decision-making processes. The organizer will also actively participate in and facilitate recurring tabling events across King County and Seattle, building grassroots momentum for environmental advocacy at the local level.

 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related fields: Environmental Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, or related disciplines strongly preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in environmental advocacy, policymaking, event planning, or community engagement. 
  • Knowledge of environmental justice issues, climate policy, and legislative advocacy. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience engaging diverse audiences. 
  • Ability to organize and facilitate community forums and workshops on environmental justice topics. 
  • Commitment to equity, environmental justice, and social impact. • Self-motivated, independent worker with strong project management skills.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Deep understanding of environmental policies, governmental processes, and policy development. 
  • Experience in coalition-building with environmental justice organizations, lawmakers, and community groups. 
  • Familiarity with environmental racism and its impact on Black and other marginalized communities 
 
ULMS Total Compensation

** Most Benefits will take effect on the 1st of the month following a 60-day waiting period
