Description

 DEFINITION

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Coordinator develops, implements, and oversees facility environmental, safety, and health programs, policies, and procedures. The coordinator also provides technical, administrative, and operational assistance to management regarding environmental and occupational safety and health issues.  


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports directly to the Human Resources Manager.

Requirements

  • Safety and Health Compliance:
         • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety, health, and      environmental regulations.
         • Actively observe, audit, and coach on safe work behaviors and      conditions.
         • Work safely with a goal of zero harm to personnel and the environment.
         • Ensure proper execution of EHS policies and procedures.
  • Program Development and Oversight:
         • Develop, implement, and maintain safety and environmental programs.
         • Audit and review the facility’s EHS programs for compliance,      effectiveness, and improvements.
         • Lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives, including regulatory      compliance tracking and reporting.
  • Safety Training and Support:
         • Provide technical assistance, support, and safety training to plant      management and staff.
         • Participate in plant safety committee meetings.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Reporting:
         • Prepare and maintain required reports such as:
    • TRI Reporting (CDX –       Federal)
    • Form R and 25R - Source       Reduction Reporting
    • 26R - Annual Report on       Residual Waste
    • Annual Tier II Chemical       Reporting
    • Annual Act 101 Recycling       Compliance Report
    • DEP Greenport Reporting
    • Environmental       Communications to Localities
  • Environmental Testing and Permits:
         • Oversee air testing (Silica, Hexavalent Chromium) and quarterly      stormwater testing.
         • Manage air operating permits, storage tank registrations, and other      required environmental permits.
         • Coordinate hazardous waste disposal, including managing waste streams      and compliance with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Accident Management and Investigation:
         • Conduct accident investigations, root cause analysis, and develop      corrective actions.
         • Monitor and track accident trends, implementing preventative measures.
  • Communication and Reporting:
         • Communicate with regulatory agencies as needed for environmental and      safety compliance.
         • Maintain open communication with plant leadership regarding safety and      environmental concerns.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
         • Perform additional duties supporting environmental, health, and safety      functionss

  • Knowledge of EHS Regulations and      Standards:
         • Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations.
         • Familiarity with federal and state environmental, health, and safety      laws and reporting requirements.
         • Knowledge of workers' compensation regulations and claims management.
  • Analytical Skills:
         • Ability to analyze accident trends, safety data, and environmental      impact reports.
         • Strong problem-solving skills for root cause analysis and corrective      action planning.
  • Communication Skills:
         • Ability to write clear and concise reports, correspondence, and      documentation.
         • Ability to present information effectively to employees, management, and      regulatory agencies.
         • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively      with staff at all levels.
  • Organizational Skills:
         • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
         • Detail-oriented with the ability to track and maintain accurate EHS      records.
         • Effective time-management skills.
  • Technical Proficiency:
         • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and      EHS-related software.
         • Ability to operate and maintain testing and monitoring equipment related      to environmental safety (e.g., air quality testing, stormwater testing).
         • Proficient in maintaining environmental and safety databases.
  • Problem-solving and Decision-Making:
         • Ability to assess potential hazards, implement control measures, and decide      EHS-related matters.
         • Ability to take prompt action in emergencies and guide teams through      critical incidents.
  • Physical and Environmental Conditions:
         • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment with      fluctuating temperatures, noise, and exposure to potentially hazardous      materials.
         • Must be capable of handling the job's physical demands, including      lifting up to 50 pounds and standing/walking for extended periods.

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
  • Education:
         • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and      Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Experience:
         • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in environmental      health and safety, preferably in a foundry or manufacturing environment.
         • Experience with EHS regulatory compliance, safety program development,      and accident investigation.
         • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability      to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak      effectively before the employees in the organization and communicate      effectively with customers and leadership throughout the organization.
  • The ability to      manage schedules, consider resources, and communicate these needs      effectively throughout the organization.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Telephone, personal computer (including word processing and other specialized software), and other office equipment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Specific vision abilities required include      close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth      perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for up to 12      hours in various plant environments.

  • While performing      the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving      mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in      the work environment is usually moderate and can be loud.

  • Employees must      wear proper steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
