Our Milwaukee, WI office is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with working knowledge of environmental monitoring, construction oversight, and stormwater regulations along with hands on experience working on active remediation projects. Experience in one or more markets such as oil & gas, utilities, railroads, industrial manufacturing, healthcare, or federal is preferred. 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct environmental monitoring during active construction projects for air, water quality, settling/displacement, noise, and other project specific metrics.
  • Complete necessary sampling during pre/post construction phases to categorize soils, waters, and air parameters.
  • Inspect various project Best Management Practices (BMPs) for regulatory compliance including stormwater, turbidity, sheen, spill prevention, and safety. 
  • Work with contractors and subcontractors to complete work to project specification and engineering standards.
  • Draft daily monitoring reports to be used in construction update meetings.
  • Support Monitoring Team Lead and Construction Manager with project tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain appropriate safety, communication, and progress logs to be used for project tracking.
  • Work under physically demanding conditions in variable weather and sometimes difficult terrain.
  • Staff Professionals may be required to spend multiple nights per week out of town working at project locations and to work irregular hours (30-55 hours per week, with overtime pay for more than 40 hours a week).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, with preference for Environmental Engineering, Scientist, or Geologist areas of emphasis. 
  • 3-5 years of direct environmental consulting experience in the U.S. marketplace.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and permitting programs at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to commit to a safety culture.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices, and project/client sites as required. 
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers preferred.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR License are preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hr Construction Safety
  • 1-3 years of construction oversight related work experience and experience with working around heavy equipment a plus.
  • GPS/ArcGIS experience is a plus.
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office software.
