Technical Compliance Intern – Renewable Energy

Exus is a next-generation Independent Power Producer that develops, owns, and operates renewable energy assets (Wind, Solar and Battery Storage) while providing world class asset management services for over 5 GW of renewable energy assets to third parties.  Exus has a proven track record of constructing and commercializing renewable energy assets and they are building their portfolio by acquiring and building utility-scale renewables projects and guiding those still in development through to full operational status. As part of Exus’ asset management business, the firm undertakes full technical and commercial management of renewable energy portfolios worldwide. Exus draws on its wide-ranging expertise to optimize technical performance, reduce financial risk, and ensure long-term revenue certainty for their own and their clients’ renewable energy assets.

The Exus Operations and Asset Management Department is seeking a Technical Compliance Intern for our Summer 2025 intern program out of our Corporate HQ Pittsburgh, PA office. This is a paid full-time position. The anticipated duration will be approximately 8 weeks from June to August 2025. Duration, start and end dates are flexible to each candidate’s school schedule. 

Internship Overview:
The Technical Compliance Intern will be responsible for supporting the Compliance Team to perform the development of compliance monitoring tools for advanced analytics, specifically in NERC Compliance for wind, solar and BESS.  The internship will be a specific project-based position that will require cross-departmental coordination to successfully complete the task to further develop internal compliance monitoring and controls. In addition to the main focal point project, the intern will assist in the support of other ad-hoc tasks related to compliance monitoring with respect to renewable energy assets will be required. 

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in the creation, development and implementation of new advanced analytics tools to monitor NERC Compliance Standards.
  2. Compile all data for each NERC specific project into a single version of truth to be imported into the monitoring tool.
  3. Suggest modifications, new ideas, and optimizations to data sources, and processes to automate due date reports and reminders, and completion status reports on different frequency basis.
  4. Recommend (and aid in the creation of) any additional tools that can be developed and automated to help monitor compliance.
Qualifications:
  1. Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer sciences, data sciences, or other relevant technical fields.
  2. Basic understanding of monitoring reoccurring due dates, time allocation and prioritization.
  3. Strong proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications.
  4. Experience in Python, MATLAB, R, or other data analytical programming languages is preferred.
  5. Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
  6. SQL and API experience preferred.
  7. Native or strong proficiency in English, speaking and writing.
  8. Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh for the duration of the internship program.
