Serving Canadians for over 55 years with a reliability rate of 99.99%, we’re developing more than a dozen new low-carbon district energy systems across North America, including the revitalization and decarbonization of our downtown Vancouver steam plant which will be one of North America’s largest thermal fuel-switch projects and provide downtown Vancouver with renewable energy infrastructure for decades to come.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Lead, Low Carbon Energy Partnerships to drive the transformation of downtown Vancouver’s energy infrastructure through the end-to-end process of identifying, structuring, and executing new business opportunities for low-carbon district energy in new and existing buildings. Reporting to the Director, Development and working in close daily partnership with the GM, Vancouver Thermal Energy System, this position is central to the modernization of the Core System. You will collaborate with stakeholders, developers, building owners, and world-class consultants, to drive revenue growth through energy solution deals, combining technical expertise with commercial acumen to deliver low-carbon heating and cooling to buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Brand ambassador for Creative Energy and its Core Vancouver system – a public facing figure for the company, leading the identification and development of new business opportunities while maintaining strategic relationships with key accounts.
- Leads the complete cycle of opportunity development, from initial market analysis and relationship building through to deal structuring and execution.
- Provides comprehensive evaluations of technical and financial feasibility of potential opportunities, incorporating analysis of Vancouver real estate market trends and development pipelines.
- Directs growth initiatives for the Core system through market analysis, deep understanding of customer needs, and strategic relationship development.
- Presents value proposition of the Creative Energy Vancouver Core system to a variety of potential customers and stakeholders including end-users, government bodies, developers, and utility entities.
- Works closely with the GM, Vancouver Thermal Energy System to develop and execute strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment between business growth and operational excellence.
- Provides design input and review throughout the design process as owner’s representative, balancing technical design, financial modelling, and business development, often developing projects from the ground up.
- Works closely with the Projects and Finance teams to address engineering, commercial, financial, operational and regulatory matters facilitating the creation of new development opportunities.
- Communicates and collaborates with project stakeholders to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives, while maintaining comprehensive oversight of relevant/opportunity related customer interactions throughout the organization.
- Contributes positively to the overall brand of Creative Energy by maintaining a strong presence within the local Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) community.
- Provides project input for regulatory processes.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of municipal by-laws and regulations affecting existing buildings in Vancouver, particularly those impacting energy systems, energy use, and greenhouse gas intensity.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of Vancouver's market, including:
- Current and projected development activities in the downtown core
- Market trends affecting commercial and residential development
- Municipal by-law requirements applicable to new and existing buildings
- Building code and energy use requirements for new buildings
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline e.g. Commerce, Business, Finance, Engineering, Real Estate.
- 8+ years of experience in business development in a related field.
- Well-connected or has the ambition to become well-connected within the commercial and residential real estate community.
- Familiarity with real estate development, facilities operations and maintenance, is an asset.
- Commercial deal structuring experience is considered an asset.
Specialized Skills and Knowledge
- Proven track record in leading complex energy infrastructure or real estate development opportunities from conception to completion.
- Deep understanding of Vancouver's real estate market dynamics and development trends.
- Deep understanding of Vancouver by-laws applicable to new and existing buildings.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic relationships across multiple organizational levels.
- Expert presentation skills, ability to galvanize and spur audience into action.
- Innate drive to excel in technical business development, including but not limited to preparing customized pitch decks, presentations, and strategic selling.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and management.
- Exceptional collaborative and interpersonal skills. with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships; able to collaborate with colleagues, project teams, customers and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid time management, organizational and planning skills and demonstrated flexibility coping effectively with changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Demonstrates initiative and is self-motivated and driven to meet and exceed annual performance expectations.

- Competitive starting salary - $126,500 - $158,000 and performance-based bonus program; this salary range is a guide and placement on the range is dependent on your applicable experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
