The Subject Matter Expert (SME) is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure curriculum enables student success in an engaged, face to face environment.  The Subject Matter Expert is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues and product strategists to create a learning atmosphere which is pedagogically sound, technically supported, and innovative in nature. 

SAIT's Continuing Education & Professional Development department is looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide guidance on courses relating to the Economics of Carbon for our new Carbon Capture Management Program! This course area will provide an introductory-level, yet comprehensive overview of carbon management practices, including carbon footprint assessment, emission sources and mitigation strategies. Our ideal candidate will have a background in carbon market economics, emissions trading and financial assessments of carbon management strategies. They will have expertise in carbon footprint assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and mitigation strategies.

Anticipated start date: March 2025

The Role


    • As a Subject Matter Expert, you will:
    • Provide strategic guidance and leadership for the new face to face courses.
    • Work collaboratively with a Product Strategist and Instructional Designers to create specific deliverables
    • Have availability for meetings during regular business hours
    • Meet all agreed upon deadlines
    • Be responsive with communication - within a day

Qualifications


    • Required:
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post secondary institution in Business or Education - a Master’s Degree from a recognized post secondary institution is preferred
    • Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience
    • Expertise in carbon market economics, emissions trading and financial assessments, specifically for carbon management strategies
    • Expertise in carbon footprint assessment, cost-benefit analysis and mitigation strategies
    • Additional designations (i.e. Chartered Professional Accountant) is preferred
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Comfortable speaking to the public
    • Positive & respectful attitude
    • Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to organize and present written information

    • Desired:
    • Previous experience with curriculum development or instructional design projects
    • Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
    • Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
    • Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
    • Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching considered an asset
    • Formal training in online technologies considered an asset
    • Ability to meet deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills and works well collaborating with teams
    • Ability to hit the ground running
