A key position in the Quality group, the EHS Specialist’s primary responsible for developing and implementing health, safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulations and create a safe working environment. The HSE Specialist will collaborate with various facilities and departments to assess risks, provide training, and implement proactive measures to enhance the overall health, safety, environmental culture within the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct thorough assessments (JSAs) of workplace processes and environments to identify potential hazards, risks, and required employee certifications.
- Analyze incident reports and trends to develop strategies for accident prevention.
- Stay up to date with local, state, and federal regulations related to health, safety, and environmental standards. Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910.
- Ensure the organization's compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Validate compliance through structured audit program.
- Develop and deliver training programs on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness.
- Collaborate with department heads to tailor training sessions to specific job roles and hazards.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses. Prepare detailed reports outlining root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
- Up to 20% travel to regions and subsidiaries.
Leadership Functions:
- Be a source of knowledge regarding local, state, and federal HSE regulations and new developments.
- Effectively champion and communicate safety concepts to individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Lead employees by coaching, counseling, and developing employees as needed.
- Implement initiatives to encourage employee engagement in safety practices.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (Four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Related Studies.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar HSE role.
- Proven track record of successful implementation of safety and environmental programs.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH, CPR) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-facility/functional teams and influence positive change.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to think critically and develop effective solutions to complex HSE challenges.
- Proven track record of successful implementation of safety and environmental programs.
Computer Skills:
Intermediate Computer Knowledge: Able to create, use, navigate and perform reports at an Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Job Specific Software: Basic ability to create, use and retrieve project related information from ERP systems, QMS and scheduling software, etc.
Certifications & Licenses: Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
- Must have motivational skills and a strong passion to create a HSE culture across all business units.
- Hands-on experience utilizing continuous improvement processes to drive HSE metrics.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit regular reports for management and regulatory agencies on the status of HSE programs.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed in a LEED Certified, general office environment, and shop and warehouse location. Cement floors, daylight, seasonally adjusted temperatures. Overhead cranes, moving forklifts on a consistent basis. Welding arcs being used. Exposure to paints, solvents, degreaser, adhesives/sealants, and oils. Position may require availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. May also require participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
