Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Mid-Level Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist to serve as the Owner's Representative on a multi-year construction project. This role requires a safety professional with 4-5 years of construction safety experience to provide oversight, guidance, and leadership in fostering a strong safety culture. The HSE Specialist will work closely with general contractor (GC) safety personnel, ensuring compliance with safety standards, coaching teams, and helping to develop and implement best practices.
This position is 80% field-based, conducting site observations, engaging with construction teams, and driving proactive safety measures, while 20% involves documentation and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate must be comfortable using technology platforms such as Highwire, Microsoft Office, and other digital safety tools to track compliance, document findings, and communicate effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Oversight (80%)
Serve as the Owner's Representative for safety, ensuring that all contractors maintain compliance with project-specific safety requirements.
Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments, providing real-time feedback and corrective action recommendations.
Actively engage with field personnel, fostering a culture of proactive safety and risk mitigation.
Guide and mentor GC safety personnel, ensuring alignment with project and company safety expectations.
Participate in and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
Monitor and assess high-risk activities, ensuring adherence to established safety procedures.
Support emergency response preparedness, incident management, and investigation processes.
Administrative & Compliance (20%)
Document and track site safety performance, observations, and corrective actions using digital platforms such as Highwire, Microsoft Office, and other compliance tools.
Assist in the development of site-specific safety plans and protocols.
Collaborate with the broader EHS team to ensure consistency in safety standards across the project.
Provide detailed reporting on safety trends, observations, and compliance metrics to project leadership.
Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, and regulatory compliance documentation.
