Job Overview: The Staff Public Engagement Specialist will provide comprehensive communication and public outreach support for large-scale permitting, planning, and construction initiatives. This role involves delivering public involvement services for clients' capital projects, focusing on crafting and executing effective engagement strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage public outreach and communications for major capital projects.
Design and implement public engagement strategies, including creating outreach materials and organizing event logistics.
Develop and execute tailored outreach plans, utilizing various tools such as public meetings, surveys, information sessions, and special events.
Produce and distribute a variety of materials (e.g., fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, website content) to effectively communicate with project stakeholders.
Participate in outreach initiatives, supporting the achievement of public engagement goals, and collaborating in government briefings and external presentations.
Assist in the creation of project publications, online content, and materials, while working closely with clients to craft key messages and themes.
Support the development and execution of localized outreach strategies.
Perform other tasks as needed and ensure adherence to organizational policies and standards.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field from an accredited program, and 4 years of strategic communication experience required, or Master's Degree in a related field and 3 years of strategic communication experience required
Experience related to communication on behalf of engineering or construction projects a plus
Media-relations skills and previous experience working with media outlets to develop and deliver key messages and manage content (news, events, crises, etc.)
Proposal writing experience strongly preferred
Experience in developing content for social media and news releases, as well as web design and coding (for both traditional and social media platforms) is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to understand and assist with the management of large-scale permitting and construction projects, and the communications processes associated with such efforts
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Expert analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
High level of attention to detail with ability to perform quality reviews
