Project Engineer I/II

Details:

We are looking for either a Project Engineer I or II depending on your experience.  Please read below and apply if you feel that you have the right fit.  We look forward to speaking with you.

 

Job Summary:

  • Project Engineer I: Assists with the delivery and completion of capital projects on time and within budget, working with external agencies and utilities.
  • Project Engineer II: Manages multiple projects independently, overseeing the completion of capital projects, and may supervise support staff.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Engineer I:

  • Assist with the oversight of construction activities for assigned capital projects.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to meet project goals.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets, recommending corrective actions when needed.
  • Conduct quality control and inspection activities.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Project Engineer II:

  • Oversee construction of multiple capital projects.
  • Work independently on smaller projects as needed.
  • Prioritize assigned projects and balance the needs of various functions.
  • Monitor and adjust project schedules and budgets, implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide oversight of quality control and inspections.
  • Prepare and present progress reports.
  • May supervise or direct support staff as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Project Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with project management software (MS Project preferred).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Project Engineer II:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer registration or Project Management certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years of construction management experience in public works or utility projects.
  • Proficiency in project management software, with knowledge of MS Project preferred.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

Technical Knowledge & Competency Requirements

Project Engineer I:

  • Knowledge of project management, construction management, planning, and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with fire department and local agency regulations.
  • Ability to analyze project budgets and schedules and communicate effectively.
  • Must be willing to travel as required, including occasional overnight stays and full-day trips.

Project Engineer II:

  • Working knowledge of project management, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong ability to analyze project data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Ability to make sound independent decisions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel as required, including overnight stays and full-day trips.
