Finance Analyst/Bookkeeper (Part-Time)

The New York Climate Exchange (“The Exchange”) is seeking a driven Finance Analyst/Bookkeeper to join the Finance & Administration team and contribute to the efficient functioning of our organization. The Finance Analyst/Bookkeeper will play a crucial role in maintaining The Exchange’s financial records.
Applicants should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, start-up environment with tasks and roles changing on a regular basis. This part-time position (minimum 10 hours/week, maximum 20 hours/week) offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity for hybrid/remote work. The ideal candidate will be located in the New York City area and will have the opportunity to work in-person, however, hybrid/remote work is possible. This position reports to the Finance Manager.
Compensation and Benefits
The range for the hourly rate for the Finance Analyst/Bookkeeper is between $30-40 per hour, commensurate with experience. The position is not eligible for health and retirement benefits, paid time off, or sick leave.
Compensation will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and specialized training. The above hiring range represents The Exchange’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the Finance Manager, the Finance Analyst/Bookkeeper will undertake the following responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Financial Record Management
Record all financial transactions and monthly accruals in a timely manner using Quickbooks Online.
Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger by maintaining organized schedules and reconciling accounts on a monthly basis.
Support month end close process and help identify opportunities for increased efficiency with finance systems.
Distribute expense reports to staff and make requested adjustments.
Accounts Payable Processing
Prepare invoices weekly for management approval in accounts payable software.
Monitor cash balance and effectively prioritize outgoing payments.
Communicate with external vendors on payment schedules and maintain positive vendor relationships.
Administrative Assistance
Develop and refine Finance Policies and SOPs alongside the Finance Manager and the rest of the Finance and Administration team.
Prepare presentations to explain financial information to audiences with different areas of expertise and backgrounds.
Draft budgets for small programming initiatives and grant applications alongside Exchange programming team.
Other duties as assigned.
Position-related Qualifications
The strongest candidates for this position will have 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit finance and bookkeeping with a solid understanding of GAAP and fund accounting. Additional qualifications include:
Ability to work independently and proactively seek efficiencies and solutions to challenges, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
Strong time management abilities and high capacity to prioritize tasks of varying urgency.
Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
Fantastic attention to detail while dealing with a high volume of transactions.
