A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Great Smoky Mountains National Park is March through December but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Major Duties: Performs a variety of duties of general nature in the routine operations, maintenance, and minor repairs of structures, utilities electrical and plumbing components, campgrounds, picnic areas, and visitor centers. Cleans restrooms, comfort stations, offices, shops, and other public use areas. Provides janitorial services as well as effecting repairs such as unplugging toilets, replacing washers, and minor repairs to surfaces such as walls, floors, and partitions Performs general grounds maintenance utilizing push mowers, weed eaters, riding mower, and all-terrain vehicles. Cleans and repairs grills and tables, collects and disposes of trash and litter, rebuilds tent pads, and does minor sign repair. Required to render moderate to heavy assistance at times to other buildings operations. Work would include snow removal around facilities, storm cleanup, painting, utility work, and assisting journeyman level employees in completing maintenance projects.
